SUMMARY INFLATION REPORT CONSUMER PRICE INDEX: JULY 2023, DAVAO DEL SUR (2018=100)

 

The headline inflation in Davao del Sur decreased by 1.9 percentage points with 2.7 percent in July 2023, from 4.6 percent in June 2023. This inflation rate is 6.9 percentage points lower than the inflation rate in July 2022 posted at 9.6 percent. The average inflation for the year’s first seven months stood at 6.4 percent. (Table A and Figure 1).

The 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH) revealed that the Municipality of Padada, Davao del Sur had a total population of 29,878 people. Out of this total, the household population involved 99.8% percent or a little bit lower of 29,825 persons. This figure posted a 12.4 growth rate compared with the 2015 total population (26,587).

The headline inflation in Davao del Sur decreased by 0.4 percentage points with 4.6 percent in June 2023, from 5.0 percent in May 2023. This inflation rate is 2.8 percentage points lower than the inflation rate in June 2022 posted at 7.4 percent. The average inflation for the year’s first six months stood at 7.1 percent. (Table A and Figure 1).

In June 2023, the headline inflation rate or the overall inflation in the City of Davao continued its downtrend, slowing down further by 0.1 percentage points at 7.6 percent compared to 7.7 percent in May 2023. The present rate, however, was still higher than the inflation rate in June of the previous year which stood at 7.0 percent. The average inflation rate from January to June 2023 on the other hand, stood at 9.1 percent. (Table A and Figure 1).

In May 2023, the headline inflation rate in the City of Davao decreased further to 7.7 percent, 1.1 percentage points lower than the previous month's rate of 8.8 percent. The average inflation rate from January to May 2023 was 9.4 percent. (Table A and Figure 1).Among the thirteen commodity groups, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages had the largest share to inflation with inflation rate of 5.0 percent in May 2023 , down from 6.7 percent in April 2023.

This inflation rate is 1.8 percentage points lower than the inflation rate on May 2022 posted at 6.8 percent. The average inflation for the year’s first five months stood at 7.6 percent. (Table A and Figure 1).

The municipality of Matanao had a total population of 60,493 individuals based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing or 2020 CPH. With 100% being the household population. Of the 60.5 thousand household population in 2020, 51.9 percent or 31.4 thousand individuals were male and 48.1 percent or 29.1 thousand individuals were female.

The 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH) revealed that the Municipality of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur had a total population of 56,919 people. Out of this total, the household population involved 100.0% percent or even a number of 56,919 persons. This figure posted a 6.77 growth rate compared with the 2015 total population (53,309).

The municipality of Magsaysay had a total population of 56,263 individuals based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing or 2020 CPH. With 100% being the household population. Of the 56.3 thousand household population in 2020, 51.7 percent or 29.1 thousand individuals were male and 48.3 percent or 27.2 thousand individuals were female.

The province of Davao del Sur had a total population of 680,481 individuals based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing or 2020 CPH. Comprising 99.8 percent of this total was the household population, which was 679,457 individuals. Of the 679.4 thousand household population in 2020, 51.3 percent or 348.7 thousand individuals were male and 48.7 percent or 330.7 thousand individuals were female. Categorically by age group, 210.0 thousand (30.9%) were young dependents or individuals under 15 years old while 430.9 thousand (63.4%) were in the working-age group (15 to 64 years old) or the economically-active population. The remaining 38.57 thousand (5.7%) were old dependents or individuals 65 years old and over. Individuals aged 0 to 14 years old, 15 to 64 years old, and 65 years old and over accounted for 31.7, 63.2, and 5.1 percent, respectively, of the household population of Davao del Sur in 2015.
