The year-on-year inflation of Davao Region declined further to 7.5 percent in April 2023, from 9.0 percent in March 2023. In April 2022, the region’s inflation was lower at 5.3 percent (Table 1 and Figure 1). Purchasing Power of the Peso (PPP) measures the real value of the Philippine peso in a given period relative to its value in the base period. In Davao Region, a peso in 2018 is worth 82 centavos in April 2023. This month’s PPP is lower than in April 2022 at 88 centavos. (Table 2). The economy of Davao Region grew by 8.1 percent in 2022, as measured by the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Gross Regional Domestic Expenditure (GRDE). It was valued at 954.1 billion pesos in 2022 from about 882.2 billion pesos in 2021, an estimated increase of 71.9 billion pesos comparing the two periods. The 2022 level had already surpassed the pre-pandemic level in 2019 by 53.2 billion pesos. Performance of sub-industries. In March 2022, the region’s inflation was lower at 4.7 percent (Table 1 and Figure 1). In Davao Region, a peso in 2018 is worth 82 centavos in March 2023. This month’s PPP is lower than in March 2022 at 89 centavos. Over 2.37 million part of the total workforce population in Davao Region Davao Region's total population 15 years old and over for January 2023 was estimated at 3.75 million. Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) during this period was at 63.2 percent, accounting for 2.37 million Davaoeños (see Table 1). This is 3.7 percentage point higher compared to the LFPR of January 2022; i.e. 172 thousand more Davaoeños are in the labor force.
