The Philippine Statistics Authority – Davao Occidental Provincial Statistical Office started the field enumeration of the January 2024 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES)-Visit 2 in the province of Davao Occidental on 10 January 2024.
The operation is being led by Chief Statistical Specialist Jessie A. Madulin and the Provincial Focal Person, Senior Statistical Specialist Rodon S. Tahil. These surveys are currently conducted by three (3) Team Supervisors (TSs) and a total of 55 Statistical Researchers (SRs) that are assigned in the five municipalities of the province: six (6) for Don Marcelino, 14 for Jose Abad Santos, 20 for Malita, 11 for Santa Maria and four (4) for Sarangani. The TSs and SRs will enumerate 1,582 total sample households throughout Davao Occidental.
The LFS is a monthly nationwide survey of households conducted by the PSA to gather data on labor and employment, demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the labor force from sample households nationwide, which is deemed sufficient to measure the levels of employment and unemployment at the national and regional levels.
Moreover, the FIES aims to gather data on family income, sources of income, family expenditure and related information affecting family income and expenditure levels and patterns in the Philippines and to determine the income distribution, levels of living and spending patterns, and the degree of inequality among families, to provide benchmark information to update the weights used in the estimation of Consumer Price Index (CPI), and to provide inputs in the estimation of the country’s poverty threshold and incidence.
The 2023 FIES is the twentieth survey conducted from the time it started in 1957, in which the field operation will run until 31 January 2024. The PSA encourages everyone to support this activity as well as its future endeavors.
