The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Davao Occidental conducted its first presentation of the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) preliminary results in the province of Davao Occidental for the Municipality of Don Marcelino on 10 July 2025 at the Municipal Conference Room.

The event was graced by the presence of Honorable Mark Edward Anthony M. Maruya, Municipal Mayor, and Engr. Bernard C. Delute, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC). Departments heads of the municipality also attended the presentation.

In his welcome message, MPDC Delute emphasized the significance of CBMS data in guiding both short-term and long-term development strategies for the municipality, citing Don Marcelino’s status as a first-class municipality. He stressed the importance of using real-time and evidencebased data to proactively drive local development initiatives.

Mayor Maruya in his message expressed full support for programs to be crafted based on the CBMS findings and highlighted the importance of data privacy in handling the information included in this undertaking. Heurged the departments of the local government to make full use of the datain formulating responsive policies.

Senior Statistical Specialist Rodon S. Tahil then presented the background and overview of the CBMS implementation in the province. Chief Statistical Specialist Jessie A. Madulin shared key preliminary findings, focusing on various socio-economic indicators such as access to electricity, internet, basic services, and food security. CSS Madulin emphasized the role of CBMS data in monitoring the progress towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enabling datadriven and targeted interventions for poverty alleviation and economic development.

Representatives of various offices actively engaged in the discussion regarding the presented initial results.

Statistical Specialist II Kimberly M. Ocariza provided the status of the LGU’s compliance with pre-data turnover requirements and the succeeding CBMS activities. The event concluded with a closing message from Statistical Analyst Mae Leonacor C. Sibla, Head Census Area Supervisor, who highlighted the inclusive and sustainable development that could be attained through the strategic use of CBMS data.
