The Philippine Statistics Office - Davao Occidental, represented by Chief Statistical Specialist Jessie A. Madulin, Supervising Statistical Specialist Munria L. Banto, and Senior Statistical Specialist Rodon S. Tahil facilitated the Data Dissemination on the 2023 First Semester Poverty Statistics with the Provincial Planning and Development Office of Davao Occidental. The event was held at the Training Room of PSA Davao Occidental Provincial Office on 23 February 2024.

Considerations in the estimation of official poverty statistics, the definition of poverty threshold, poverty incidence and magnitude of poor families and population, food threshold, subsistence incidence and magnitude of food poor families and population were discussed. Preliminary analysis of the data for the past two years indicated a positive trend within the province with improvements evidenced by a decrease in poverty and subsistence incidence, and a decrease in the magnitude of poor and food poor families.

The data was based on the 2023 First Semester Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), marking the first conduct of its biennial cycle. This aims to enhance the frequency and timeliness of income and expenditure statistics to provide a dynamic and responsive framework for targeted intervention strategies and development planning.

The data dissemination offered a picture of the poverty situation in Davao Occidental. With this information, policymakers and planners are equipped to formulate programs and design initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation and socioeconomic improvements within the province. The collaboration between the Philippine Statistics Office - Davao Occidental and the Provincial Planning and Development Office underscores a shared commitment and concerted effort to utilize data for informed governance and transformative policymaking.
