Over 2.13 million part of the total workforce population in Davao Region

Davao Region's total population 15 years old and over for April 2022 was estimated at 3.71 million. Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) during this period was at 57.4 percent, accounting for 2.13 million Davaoeños (see Table 1). This is 1.8 percentage points lower compared to the LFPR of April 2021, equivalent to 16 thousand Davaoeños.

Northern Mindanao reported the highest LFPR at 68.7 percent on the other hand; Davao Reigon has the lowest rate at 57.4 percent. Eight regions have lower LFPR than the national estimate at 63.4 percent: BARMM, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, NCR, Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Eastern Visayas, and Davao Region. Comparing to April 2021's LFPR, Ilocos Region have the highest increase in terms of percentage points from 64.4 percent to 68.5 percent.

Majority of the economically active population in Davao Region were employed

Davao Region’s employment rate in April 2022 stood at 96.2 percent. This is an estimated decrease of 43 thousand Davaoeños with work compared to January 2022. The estimated rate, however, is higher than the reported 95.8 percent in April 2021. In addition, Davao Region's employment rate for April 2022 attained higher than the national estimate of 94.3 percent by 1.9 percentage points.

As Figure 2 shows, 11 regions recorded higher than the national rate which includes Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Cagayan Valley, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, CAR, Central Visayas, Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Western Visayas. Zamboanga Peninsula has the highest employment rate among all regions at 97.1 percent which is 2.8 percentage points higher than the national estimate. Central Visayas showed the highest increase of 2.9 percentage points from January 2022 at 92.0 percent to April 2022 at 94.8 percent.

Unemployment rate of Davao Region is at 3.8 percent

In April 2022, Davao Region, posted an unemployment rate at 3.8 percent. This is lower compared to January 2022 unemployment rate (4.8%) and same period of last year (4.2 %).

Figure 3 shows unemployment rates in six areas of the country reportedly higher than the national estimate of 5.7 percent in April 2022: BARMM, NCR, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Ilocos Region.

Davao Region’s Underemployment rate in the country is at 8.1 percent

Underemployed persons or employed persons who: expressed their desire to have additional hours of work in their present job or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer hours of work. In April 2022, 8.1 percent of total employed Davaoeños reported to be underemployed. The underemployment rate for April 2022 is lower by 2.9 percentage points than January 2022 (11.0%) and during the same period last year (9.0%) at 0.9 percentage points.

As shown in Figure 4, 11 other regions with underemployment rate higher than the national estimate of 14.0 percent: SOCCSKSARGEN, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, MIMAROPA, BARMM, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga. SOCCSKSARGEN has the highest underemployment rate with 23.0 percent which is 9.0 percentage points higher than the national estimate.
