Majority of the economically active population in Davao Region were employed
Davao Region’s employment rate in July 2022 stood at 97.1 percent. This is an estimated increase of 213 thousand Davaoeños with work compared to April 2022. The estimated employment rate is higher than the reported 95.1 percent in July 2021. In addition, Davao Region's employment rate for July 2022 attained higher than the national estimate of 94.8 percent by 2.3 percentage points.
As Figure 2 shows, 11 regions recorded higher than the national rate which includes Cagayan Valley, Davao Region, Caraga, SOCCSKSARGEN, Zamboanga Peninsula, CAR, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Central Luzon, Ilocos Region and MIMAROPA. Cagayan Valley has the highest employment rate among all regions at 97.2 percent which is 2.4 percentage points higher than the national estimate. BARMM showed the highest increase of 2.5 percentage points from April 2022 at 91.9 percent to July 2022 at 94.8 percent.
Unemployment rate of Davao Region is at 2.9 percent
In July 2022, Davao Region posted an unemployment rate at 2.9 percent. This is lower compared to April 2022 unemployment rate (3.8%) and same period of last year (4.9%). It is similarly lower than the national estimate of 2.3 percentage points.
Figure 3 shows unemployment rates in six areas of the country reportedly higher than the national estimate of 5.2 percent in July 2022: NCR (6.9%), CALABARZON (6.3%), Western Visayas (6.0%), BARMM (5.6%), Northern Mindanao (5.3%) and Bicol Region (5.2%).
Davao Region’s Underemployment rate in the country is at 7.7 percent
Underemployed persons or employed persons who: expressed their desire to have additional hours of work in their present job or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer hours of work. In July 2022, 7.7 percent of total employed Davaoeños reported to be underemployed. The underemployment rate for July 2022 is lower by 0.4 percentage points than April 2022 (8.1%) and during the same period last year (17.2%) at 9.5 percentage points.
As shown in Figure 4, 11 other regions with underemployment rate higher than the national estimate of 13.8 percent: Caraga, SOCCSKSARGEN, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Ilocos Region, CAR, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Cagayan Valley, Central Visayas and CALABARZON. Caraga has the highest underemployment rate with 25.5 percent which is 11.7 percentage points higher than the national estimate.
