Davao Occidental Provincial Statistical Office, Poblacion, Malita, Davao Occidental – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Davao Occidental proudly concludes its month-long celebration of the 34th Civil Registration Month with a grand culmination program and oratorical contest held on February 28, 2024.

One of the highlights of the culmination program was the oratorical contest, where talented speakers from different schools competed by delivering compelling speeches on the theme "CRVS: The Future of Seamless Services." The participants showcased their eloquence and passion for the subject, emphasizing the crucial role of civil registration in ensuring the rights and welfare of every individual. The contestants came from the 7 different private and public junior high schools of the province namely: Lacaron National High School, Adventure College of Malita, Pedro Mariscal National High School, Mariano Peralta National High School, Fishing Village Comprehensive National High School, Jose Abad Santos National High School, and Heracleo Casco Memorial National High School. The office invited Municipal Civil Registrar Hazel D. Preglo of Jose Abad Santos LCRO, Dawn L. Limao of  Southern Philippines Agri-business Marine and Aquatic School of Technology, and Supervising Statistical Specialist Munria L. Banto of PSA-Davao Occidental as the judges of the activity.

Accumulating the final scores of 86.3%, 84.0%, and 82.3%, the representatives from the Fishing Village Comprehensive National High School bagged the first place, Pedro Mariscal National High School in second place and, Jose Abad Santos National High School in third place. 

The names of the winners were as follows:

1st Place: Hannah M. Magno
School: Fishing Village Comprehensive National High School

2nd Place: Andrea Ashley M. Dela Peña
School: Pedro Mariscal National High School

3rd Place: Marche Heart Hyacinth Y. Galgo
School: Lacaron National High School

The participants, coaches, and the represented school received certificates and the winners received plaque, certificate of recognition, and cash prize as follows: 1st prize Php 2500.00, 2nd prize 1,500.00, and third prize Php 1,000.00.

Throughout the month of February, PSA Davao Occidental has been at the forefront of raising awareness about the importance of civil registration in our communities. Civil registration, which includes the recording of vital events such as births, marriages, and deaths, is fundamental for the protection of individual rights, as well as for the planning and implementation of government programs and services.
