Sex ratio of 141:100 indicates higher male mortality
Figure 3 illustrates the 2023 age-sex distribution of registered deaths, revealing a low proportion of deaths in young children under 10 years old, with slightly higher infant mortality (ages under 1 year old), followed by a progressive increase, peaking in ages 65 to 69 years old before a slight decline in the oldest ages. (Figure 3)
In Davao del Norte, the number of male deaths (4,642 or 58.4%) was higher than female deaths (3,302 or 41.6%). Among males, the highest proportion of deaths occurred in the age group 65 to 69, 573, or 12.3 percent of male deaths. For females, the largest proportion was recorded at the oldest age group, 85 years old and over, 403, or 12.2 percent of female deaths. (Figure 3 and Table 3)
The sex ratio of 141:100 suggests that for every 100 female deaths, approximately 141 male deaths occurred. Additionally, all age groups below 80 years recorded a sex ratio exceeding 100, indicating a higher number of male deaths than female deaths. However, among individuals aged 80 and above, there were more female deaths than male deaths. (Figure 3 and Table 3)
