Volume of Palay Production decreased by 16.63 percent in Fourth Quarter 2022 in Davao Occidental
The total volume of palay production in the province recorded a decrease of 16.63 percent estimated at 583.09 metric tons for fourth quarter 2022 from 699.38 metric tons in the same quarter in the year 2021 as shown in Table 1. Furthermore, as observed in Table 1, area harvested for palay production this fourth quarter also recorded a decrease of 26.55 percent estimated at 202.00 hectares as compared to last year of 275.00 hectares.
In fourth quarter of 2022, irrigated palay production decreased by 6.75 percent from 508.38 metric tons to 474.05 metric tons compared to same period in 2021 as shown in Figure 1. Furthermore, production of rainfed palay also decreased by 42.91 percent from 191.00 metric tons to 109.04 metric tons this quarter compared to last year same quarter as shown in Figure 2 below.
In fourth quarter of 2022, area harvested of irrigated palay decreased by 1.82 percent estimated at 108.00 hectares compared to same period in 2021 as shown in Figure 3. Likewise, area harvested of rainfed palay production also decreased by 43.03 percent in fourth quarter of 2022 estimated at 94.00 hectares compared to last year same quarter as shown in Figure 4.
In fourth quarter of 2022, yield of irrigated palay decreased by 5.03 percent estimated at 4.39 metric tons per hectare compared to same period in 2021 estimated at 4.62 metric tons per hectare as shown in Figure 5. On the other hand, yield of rainfed palay production recorded a slight increase of 0.21 percent in fourth quarter of 2022 estimated at 1.16 metric tons per hectare compared to last year same quarter estimated at 1.158 metric tons per hectare as shown in Figure 6.
TECHNICAL NOTES:
Production- refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested/to be harvested palay during the reference period.
Area Harvested- is the actual area from which harvests are realized, in hectares. This excludes crop area which was totally damaged. It may be smaller than the area planted.
Yield – an indicator of productivity derived by dividing the total production by area harvested or a number of bearing tress/hills/vines.
Irrigated Palay- is grown in area with irrigation facilities supplying water through artificial means like gravity, force/power, pump, etc.
Rainfed Palay- is grown in area without irrigation facilities and is dependent solely on rainfall for its water supply.
