A 0.3-percent drop in registered marriages
In 2023, the City of Panabo registered 910 marriages, equivalent to a crude marriage rate (CMR) of 4.8 or nearly 5 marriages per thousand population. This corresponds to a slight decrease of 0.3 percent compared to the 913 registered marriages in 2022. On average, 2 marriages were solemnized daily (Figure 1 and Table 1).

Couples prefer to be married in civil ceremonies

In 2023, the City of Panabo registered a total of 425 marriages or 46.7 percent that were contracted in civil ceremonies.
Moreover, some marriages were officiated in the Roman Catholic church, with 325 marriages or 35.7 percent.
Additionally, 155 marriages or 17.0 percent, were performed under other religious rites.
On the other hand, five marriages or 0.5 percent were conducted according to Muslim tradition.
Highest recorded marriages count in June
In 2023, the highest number of registered marriages occurred in the month of June, with 143 marriages or 15.7 percent of the total marriages in the City of Panabo. This was followed by the month of March with 128 marriages or 14.1 percent, and the month of December with 84 marriages or 9.2 percent.
Conversely, the lowest recorded registered marriages occurred in the month of October, with only 47 or 5.2 percent. (Figure 4).

Median marriage age: 30 for men, 28 for women
The median age at marriage in the City of Panabo was 30 years for men and 28 years for women, indicating that women tend to marry at a younger age than men.
Of the total registered marriages, 33.0 percent of males were aged 25 to 29 at the time of marriage, while 36.6 percent of females were within the same age group. (Figure 5)
On the other hand, 4.8 percent of males were aged 50 years and above, nearly twice the 2.6 percent of brides in the same age group. (Figure 5)
Additionally, there were no recorded marriages involving males or females under the age of 15. (Figure 5)

Timely marriages high in the city
Marriage registration must be completed within 30 days of occurrence.
In 2023, most marriages in City of Panabo met this requirement, with 897 marriages or 98.6 percent registered on time.
On the other hand, 13 marriages or 1.4 percent were registered late. (Figure 6)

Majority of marriages involved Filipino citizens
In 2023, the majority of individuals who got married in the City of Panabo were Filipino citizens, comprising 882 grooms and 909 brides. Only a small proportion were foreign nationals with 28 males and 1 female reported as a non-Filipino.

Moreover, the majority of marriages in the City of Panabo were between Filipino citizens, with 881 Filipino males marrying Filipino females. (Table 1)
However, a small number of intermarriages were recorded, mostly between Filipino females and foreign males, notably 9 Americans and 5 Australians. Only one involved a foreign female, a Canadian who married a Filipino male. (Table 1)
