Kapalong’s live births increased by 3.8 percent

In 2023, the Municipality of Kapalong recorded 2,568 live births, corresponding to a crude birth rate (CBR) of 30.0, or approximately 30 births per thousand population.

Over the past 5 years, live births have increased by 21.1 percent, from 2,120 in 2019 to 2,568 in 2023. A slight increase of 3.8 percent was observed in 2023 compared to the 2,474 recorded in 2022. (Figure 1)

More males than females

Of the total 2,568 registered live births in Kapalong in 2023, there were more males than females. There were 1,333 male births or 51.9 percent, while 1,235 female births made up 48.1 percent.

As a result, the sex ratio at birth was 107 males per 100 females. (Figure 2)

 

January & March recorded the highest number of live births

In 2023, most live births occurred in January & March with 253 births or 9.9 percent each. Following January & March, September recorded a high number of births, with 243 or 9.5 percent, and then April with 237 births or 9.2 percent.

Conversely, December had the least number of births with 163 births or 6.3 percent. (Figure 3)

Majority of births were attended by health professionals

Of the total registered live births in Kapalong, 2,397 or the majority of live births were attended by health professionals.

In contrast, only 168 births or about 6.5 percent were attended by traditional birth attendants, and 3 births or less than 1.0 percent were attended by others except health professionals or traditional birth attendants. (Figure 4)

In 2023, majority of live births in Kapalong were delivered at health facilities. There were 2,396 births, or 93.3 percent were delivered in health facilities, such as hospitals, birthing clinics, specialized care centers, or similar facilities.

In contrast, only 169 births (6.6%) occurred at home, while 3 births (0.1%) were delivered in other locations. (Figure 5)

Majority of babies were born to mothers aged 20-24 years old

In 2023, majority of live births in Kapalong were delivered at health facilities. There were 2,396 births, or 93.3 percent were delivered in health facilities, such as hospitals, birthing clinics, specialized care centers, or similar facilities.

 

In 2023, most live births were born to mothers aged 20 to 24 years old, with 722 births, accounting for 28.1 percent of the total.

However, babies born to adolescent mothers, those younger than 20 years old, recorded 489 births, making up 19.0 percent of the total. (Figure 6)

Explanatory Note

Data on births of Kapalong presented in this special release were obtained from the timely and late registration of births from January to December 2023, at the Local Civil Registry Office which was registered submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs). Figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration. This release includes births of foreign nationals that occurred in Kapalong during the reference period.
