Registered Deaths in Davao City Show Fluctuations Over the Years

The number of registered deaths in Davao City since 2014 to 2019 showed an increasing trend from 10,665 deaths in 2014 to 13,835 deaths in 2019. Meanwhile, there was a slight decrease in 2020 with 12,088 recorded deaths. Noticeably, there was a spiking number of deaths in year 2021 (pandemic) with 15,385 deaths. And an increasing trend from 2022 with 13,175 recorded deaths to 13,426 deaths in 2023.
 

 

More than Half of Deaths in the City Are Males

In Davao City, out of 13,426 total registered deaths, there were 7,748 male (57.7%) death and 5,678 (42.3%) deaths were females.    
 

 

Registered Deaths by Civil Status, Davao City, 2023

In terms of deaths by civil status,  there was 6,601 death persons were married. Then, 3,927 recorded deaths were single. Additionally, 2,860 deaths were recorded among widowed individuals. 
 

 

Majority of Registered Deaths in Davao City Were Aged 60 and Over

Out of the total deaths, about 7,157 persons  who died aged 60 years old and over.  There were 4,088 persons who died at the age of 20 to 59 years old in Davao City
Noticeably, about 370 of the total deaths were below one year old. 

 


 

Most Registered Deaths in Davao City Were Attended by Hospital Authorities

Of the registered number of deaths in Davao City in 2023, majority of the deaths with 58.1 percent were medically attended compared to the 41.1 percent which were not attended by any medical professionals. 
Among medically attended deaths, hospital authorities have the highest percentage of deaths attended at 7,309 deaths (54.4%).  This was followed by 332 deaths (2.5%) deaths which were attended by public health officer.  And, there were 155 death occurrences (1.2%) which were medically attended by private physician.

 


 

Davao City Recorded 454 Infant Deaths Among Registered Cases in 2023

In 2023, Davao City recorded 454 cases of infant deaths out of the 13,426 recorded deaths.
 

 

Most Registered Deaths in Davao City Were Timely Registered

In terms of registration status of death in the city, 99.4 percent were timely registered, and the remaining 0.6 percent were late.
 

 

 


Technical Notes

•    Data Source: Mortality statistics were based on Certificates of Death (Municipal Form No. 103) registered at City/Municipal Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
•    Coverage: The report includes deaths by place of occurrence in Davao del Sur, regardless of the usual residence of the deceased. 
•    Medical Attendance: Deaths are classified as medically attended (attended by a hospital, private physician, or public health officer) or not medically attended (no medical professional present at the time of death).

•    Infant Mortality: Refers to deaths of infants below one year old.
•    Maternal Mortality: Defined as the death of a woman during pregnancy or within 42 days of pregnancy termination, from causes related to pregnancy or its management, excluding accidental causes.
