
Registered Births of Davao City in 2023
In Davao City, a total of 27,257 live births were registered in the year 2023. This figure was lower by 1.2 percent compared to 27,590 total births in 2022. This translated that on average there were 74 babies born daily in the city.
After a decade, the number of registered live births in Davao del Sur generally showed a decreasing trend since 2014. In 2014, the recorded births were 35,560 births in the year 2023 and slowly decreased until 2020.
Noticeably, there was a sudden decrease of birth in 2021 with 24,894 registered births (which was during pandemic time).

In terms of registered birth by sex, Davao City recorded 14,279 births in 2023 from 14,632 births in 2022, for male babies. Meanwhile, for female babies, the city recorded 12,978 births in 2023 from 12,958 births in 2022. For sex ratio, more male babies were born compared to females in Davao City from 2014 to 2023.
In 2023 particularly, more than half (52 percent) of the babies registered were males with 14,279 births, compared to 48 percent with 12,978 births of female babies. This resulted in a sex ratio of 110 male babies per 100 females.

Around 98.1 percent of births registered in the city were attended by medical professionals (physicians, nurses, and midwives). There were 19,585 births or 71.9 percent that were medically attended by doctors, while 7,117 births or 26.1 percent or births were delivered by midwives, and 25 births or 0.1 percent of births were aided by nurses.
Meanwhile, 1.6 percent or 431 live births were given birth by the traditional birth attendants (hilot/unlicensed midwife) and remaining percent were attended by others.

In terms of the age group of the mother, majority of births (7,658 registered births) in the city were born to mothers who belonged to the age group 25-29 years old. Also, about 6,406 births were born to mothers under the age group 30-34 years old.
Meanwhile, there were about 6,025 births and 3,421 births were born to mothers with the age group 20-24 years old and 35-39 years old, respectively.
Noticeably, the city recorded 65 births who were born to mothers under 15 years old in the city.

In terms of the age group of the father, majority of births (6,425 registered births) in the city were the age of the fathers who belonged to the age group 25-29 years old. Also, about 6,305 births where the age of the father is under the age group 30-34 years old.
Meanwhile, there were 3,852 births and 3,562 births whose age of the father was in age group 35-39 years old and 20-24 years old, respectively.
Noticeably, the city recorded a single birth whose age of the father was under 15 years old in the city.

The highest number of registered births was recorded in September with 2,477 registrations, accounting for 9.1 percent of the total annual registrations. Conversely, the lowest was in February, with 2,072 registered births or 7.6 in percent.
Majority of Births are Registered on Time
In terms of registration status, 97 percent were registered timely, and the remaining 3 percent were late.

EXPLANATORY NOTES
Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the timely and late registered births at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars all throughout the country and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs). The information presented includes births that occurred from January to December 2023 based on data files received by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the
PSOs and processed as of 31 August 2024. Figures presented herein are not adjusted for registration. This release includes births of Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and births of foreign nationals that occurred in the country during the reference period. Births of Filipinos abroad which were reported to the Philippine Foreign Service Posts are presented in a separate report.
Live Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached; each product of such birth is considered live born.
