29 August 2024- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Davao Oriental in partnership with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) served and supported the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Purok 8, Barangay Pintatagan, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, and its neighboring sitios. The PSA personnel was spearheaded by Registration Officer II Marlon A. Mag-aso, Registration Officer I Kristel Joy A. Obeal, Birth Registration Coordinator Jenny Rose M. Magandam, and Registration Kit Operator Ian Cablinda.
The outreach program involved participants from the provincial local government offices, including the Provincial Governor's Office (PGO), Provincial Agriculturist Office (PAGRO), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to deliver basic health services closer to the community identified as Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAS), specifically in Mandaya Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs).
During the event, residents submitted requests for authenticated copies of their civil registry documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, CENOMAR, and received assistance with their inquiries related to the civil registration processes. The initiative also provided services to unregistered individuals aged 5 years old and above who are not yet registered to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys)
On the same day, NCIP Acting Provincial Officer Atty. James Ian A. Generale together with the Barangay Tribal Chieftain of Pintatagan Alfonso G. Bungarotan, PGO, PAGRO and MinDa conducted a ceremonial turn-over of DSWD food packs, school supplies, hygiene kits, and vegetable seeds to the Indigenous Peoples (IPs). The Municipal Tribal Chieftain Leonilo Pacay Sr. expressed his sincere appreciation to the agencies for accommodating their request. He commended their efforts in ensuring that vital support reaches the community, bringing services to their constituents.
The outreach initiative was successfully launched to deliver essential services to the residents in vulnerable areas. This collaboration sought to meet the needs and overcome the challenges faced by these residents, ensuring they could access government services and support. The successful partnership between PSA Davao Oriental the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and other partner agencies has the potential to serve as a vital link to remote communities. This initiative not only addresses immediate concerns but also lays the groundwork for sustainable development and continued engagement with marginalized populations.
