City of Mati, Davao Oriental- Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) visited Davao Oriental on 19 August 2024. The undersecretary was joined by several key officials from regional and provincial offices in Davao Region led by OIC- Regional Director Randolph Anthony B. Gales. This endeavor aims to strengthen relationships with stakeholders in the municipalities in the province and to meet the hardworking men and women working behind the successes of PSA in this part of the country.

During the visit, Usec. Mapa convened with the civil registrars in the province to discuss their issues and concerns regarding the latest instructions and issuances on civil registration procedures. He made clarifications on the inquiry about document attachments on the late processing of the clients’ birth documents. He also inquired on the progress of the Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) in the municipalities emphasizing the importance of providing birth certificates to the Filipino people, especially those residents living in the far-flung areas. As part of the consensus during the meeting with the city and municipal civil registrars, it is agreed that a regional forum on the current policies and issuances about civil registration will be conducted to establish similar interpretation and uniform implementation amongst MCRs in the region.

On the same day, Undersecretary Mapa spearheads the blessing of the new PSA Davao Oriental office and engages with the personnel. During this gathering, he provided updates on his initiatives for the organization, fielded inquiries from the staff, and notably inquired about the progress of Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration in the province. He underscored the significance of PhilSys in the digitalization and centralization of government services. Moreover, he expounded on the pertinence of the ongoing 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (2024 POPCEN-CBMS), emphasizing its prospective contribution to a comprehensive national strategy.

The recent visit by Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD underscores his commitment to personally evaluate the status and circumstances of the provincial offices.
