Davao Oriental, 22 March 2024- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Davao Oriental officially turnovers the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) data results to the City of Mati in a momentous occasion held at Honey’s Hotel, Matiao, City of Mati, Davao Oriental. The ceremony was attended by PSA officials from the regional office led by the OIC-Regional Director Randolph Anthony B. Gales, PSA Davao Oriental personnel headed by OIC-Chief Statistical Specialist Emily P. Tomogdan, ENP Joseph G. Porgatorio, City Administrator Allan E. Andrada duly representing the City Mayor, City Government Department Heads and members of the CBMS coordinating board, and distinguished representatives from the provincial offices of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The primary objective of the event was to emphasize the substantial impact that can be achieved through the utilization of local insights for driving meaningful and impactful change. In his opening message, Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Randolph Anthony B Gales highlighted the relevance of the CBMS result as a valuable tool that will be very useful in the crafting of policies by the policymakers, and in addressing the prevalent concerns as a result of the recently conducted CBMS. He underscored the importance of CBMS in helping the local government to have programs that will target most especially poverty alleviation in the city.
Ms. Emily P. Tomogdan, Officer-in-Charge of PSO Davao Oriental, presented the highlights of Mati City's 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System results across various aspects. She articulately discussed the results in each area, while providing the participants of the ceremony a glimpse of the contents of the data given to the City. After the formal turnover of the data, City Administrator Allan Andrada commended the Philippine Statistics Authority for this great endeavor. He also recognized the continued presence of PSA with its different programs in the city “Unlike before I didn’t notice a lot of PSA activities but now you’re everywhere, you are very noticeable”. He also showed his appreciation of the CBMS because it will be vital in addressing societal concerns of the city and will help craft its future plans. City Planning and Development Coordinator Joseph Porgatorio also presented his office with possible ways to utilize the CBMS datasets. He comprehensively discussed with the participants the immediate actions his office may initiate to instantly address the results that need to be immediately addressed by the different programs of the city offices.
The Community-Based Monitoring System is a remarkable example of how communities and institutions can work collaboratively to achieve a common goal. It underscores the vital role of participatory monitoring in shaping policies and interventions tailored to meet local communities' unique needs. During the data handover ceremony, participants demonstrated their unwavering commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities in decision-making processes. The present occasion holds significant importance as it marks the successful completion of a rigorous data collection process. It also signifies a collective commitment towards prioritizing inclusivity and advancing equitable outcomes. And as the program ends, everyone is encouraged to continuously support the upcoming endeavors of the PSA and the CBMS to ensure the attainment of “Swak na Datos Para sa Komunidad na Maayos”.
