Volume of Corn Production increased by 10.34 percent in Third Quarter 2023 in Davao Occidental
The total volume of corn production in the province recorded an increase of 10.34 percent estimated at 10,313.30 metric tons for third quarter 2023 from 9,346.94 metric tons in the same quarter in the year 2022 as shown in Table 1. Furthermore, area harvested for corn production in third quarter also recorded an increase of 4.03 percent estimated at 6,606.08 hectares as compared to last year’s 6,350.00 hectares.
In third quarter of 2023, white corn production increased by 11.36 percent from 7,627.44 metric tons to 8,494.14 metric tons compared to same period in 2022 as shown in Figure 1. Furthermore, production of yellow corn also increased by 5.80 percent from 1,719.50 metric tons to 1,819.16 metric tons this quarter compared to last year same quarter as shown in Figure 2 below
In third quarter of 2023, area harvested of white corn increased by 4.12 percent estimated at 5,983.00 hectares compared to same period in 2022 as shown in Figure 3. Likewise, area harvested of yellow corn production also increased by 3.16 percent in third quarter of 2023 estimated at 623.08 hectares compared to last year same quarter as shown in Figure 4.
In third quarter of 2023, yield of white corn increased by 6.77 percent estimated at 1.42 metric tons per hectare compared to same period in 2022 estimated at 1.33 metric tons per hectare as shown in Figure 5. Furthermore, yield of yellow corn production recorded an increase of 2.46 percent in third quarter of 2023 estimated at 2.92 metric tons per hectare compared to last year same quarter estimated at 2.85 metric tons per hectare as shown in Figure 6.
TECHNICAL NOTES
Production- refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvester’s and thresher’s shares, reserved, etc.
Area Harvested- is the actual area from which harvests are realized, in hectares. This excludes crop area which was totally damaged. It may be smaller than the area planted. In crop statistics, this applies to mono-harvest temporary crops.
Yield- an indicator of productivity derived by dividing the total production by the area harvested
White Corn is a type of corn used primarily for human consumption
Yellow Corn is used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.
