“FACTS AND FIGURES FOR THE FUTURE:
Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions Towards Ambisyon Natin 2040”
What does a typical Filipino want?
How can we mold our society into something better for the future generation?
Our country currently faces various challenges brought by both natural and man-made calamities, and the pressure to compete globally. Quality statistics and evidence-based decisions play significant roles towards achieving the Filipino aspirations. A strong macroeconomic foundation enables the Philippines to cope with the problems caused by these issues, namely: poverty, instability, and stagnation, among others.
From being an economic laggard of Asia, our country has recently been branded as one of the region’s best performing economies. With previous development plans prioritizing survival and stability, the nation can now foresee a better future of possibilities.
In the year 2040, the Philippines is envisioned to be a prosperous, high-trust, middle-class society, where the underprivileged is lifted from poverty, the people are healthy and educated, and the citizens are happy and free from doubts and discrimination.
The theme for the 28th National Statistics Month, “Facts and Figures for the Future: Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions Towards AmBisyon Natin 2040”, reflects the important role of reliable statistics and factual information in determining appropriate strategies in tracking our progress towards AmBisyon Natin 2040 where all Filipinos are envisioned to enjoy a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay.
To ensure the sustained production and dissemination of statistics which are necessary for the achievement of the Filipino aspirations, statistical activities and programs as identified in the Philippine Statistical Development Program (PSDP) shall be implemented and monitored. These statistics will serve as the evidence needed by policy- and decision-makers in pursuing “bold visions and effective development planning based on forward-looking approach that goes beyond a single administration.”
