1. Inflation of Davao del Norte
The headline inflation in Davao del Norte increased at 4.7 percent in April 2022 compared to the recorded 4.0
percent in March 2022. This is also slightly lower compared to the headline inflation of the Philippines of the
same month (Table A.)
The month-on-month inflation in Davao del Norte of the current year showed that the highest recorded inflation
was observed in January 2022 (5.6). While, the month of February has the lowest with 3.9 percent.
(Table B and Figure 1.)
The year-on-year inflation rate showed that April 2022 is higher by 2.0 percent compared to the same period
in 2021 (2.7%).
The average inflation for the first four months of the year 2022 stood at 4.6 percent.

2. Contribution to the Inflation
The higher inflation rate in Davao del Norte was mainly brought about by the higher annual increase in the indices
for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.8%), transport (12.8%), and housing,water, electricity, gas, and other fuels
(10.2%). Moreover, contributing to the uptrend in the overall inflation during the period were the annual increments
in the indices of the following commodity groups (Table C):
a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (9.3%);
b. Clothing and footwear (1.2%);
c. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.9%); and
d. Restaurants and accommodation services (0.5%).
Meanwhile, annual upticks slowed down in the indices of health which was recorded at 2.6 percent; information
and communication at 0.2 percent; and financial services at 0.0 percent.
Neither increase nor decrease is noticeable for the inflation of recreation, sport and culture (1.0%), education services
(0.0%), and personal care, miscellaneous goods and services (3.0%).

3. Month-on-Month
By commodity groups, the transport showed the highest increase with an inflation rate of 12.8 percent in
April 2022, compared to its 10.8 percent rate in March 2022.
The second commodity which exhibited an increase in inflation rate in a month- on-month comparison is the
housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which stood at 10.2 percent in April 2022 from 9.2 percent
in March 2022.
Moreover, the restaurants and accomodation services has an increase inflation rate in April 2022,
which stood at 0.5 percent.
In the contrary, the commodity groups showed decreases in inflation compared from March 2022 are as follows:
· Health (from 3.0 to 2.6)
· Information and Communication (from 0.3 to 0.2)
· Financial Services (from 45.0 to 0)
Lastly, the commodity groups with no movement on its inflation rate from March 2022 are the recreation,
sport and culture, education services, and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services.

Technical Notes
Consumer Price Index (CPI)
An indicator of the change in the average retail prices of a fixed basket of goods and services commonly
purchased by households relative to a base year.
Based Period
A reference date at which the index is equal to 100. The Base year is 2018.
Inflation Rate
The rate of change of the CPI expressed in percent. It is interpreted in terms of declining purchasing
power of peso.
