Davao del Norte sees a 5.0-percent drop in marriages in 2023
In 2023, the province of Davao del Norte registered 5,349 marriages, equivalent to a crude marriage rate (CMR) of 5.0 or 5 marriages per thousand population. This corresponds to a decrease of 5.0 percent compared to the 5,629 registered marriages in 2022. On average, 15 marriages were solemnized daily (Figure 1 and Table 1).

Top three cities account for 67.9 percent of total marriages
Among the cities and municipalities, the highest number of registered marriages was recorded in the City of Tagum, with 2,144 marriages (40.1%). Two other cities in the province with relatively large populations also reported a significant number of registered marriages. The City of Panabo ranked second with 910 marriages (17.0%), followed by the Island Garden City of Samal with 580 marriages (10.8%).
Together, these three cities accounted for 67.9% of the total registered marriages in the province. Also, these cities consistently recorded the highest number of registered marriages and retained their respective ranks from 2022.
On the other hand, the Municipality of Braulio E. Dujali recorded the lowest number of registered marriages with only 64 or 1.2 percent of the total marriages in the province. (Figure 2 and Table 2)

Highest marriage counts in June with 1,160 marriages
In 2023, the highest number of registered marriages occurred in the month of June, with 1,160 marriages or 21.7 percent of the total marriages in the province. This was followed by March with 517 marriages (9.7%), and the months of August and September, each recording 439 marriages (8.2%). Conversely, November had the fewest registered marriages, with only 247 (4.6%).
Furthermore, March and June recorded higher daily averages of marriages compared to the provincial average of 15 marriages per day. In contrast, November registered the lowest daily average, with just 8 marriages per day (Figure 3 and Table 3).

Median marriage age: 31 for men, 28 for women
The median age at marriage in the province was 31 years old for men and 28 years old for women, indicating that women tend to marry at a younger age compared to men. Moreover, of the total number of registered marriages, 1,896 males (35.4%) were aged 25 to 29 at the time of their marriage, while 2,060 females (38.5%) were in the same age group when they got married.
Notably, the number of men aged 50 years and above who got married (247 or 4.6%) was more than twice the number of women in the same age group (108 or 2.0%). (Figure 4, and Tables 4)
Furthermore, 154 marriages (2.9%) involved adolescent females below 20 years old, which is over six times the number of marriages involving adolescent males in the same age group (24 marriages or 0.4%).
