Four births per thousand population
In 2023, the Municipality of Santo Tomas recorded 506 live births, corresponding to a crude birth rate (CBR) of 4.0, or 4 births per thousand population.
Over the past 5 years, live births have declined by 30.3 percent, from 726 in 2019 to 506 in 2023. A slight decrease of 18.4 percent was observed in 2023 compared to the 620 recorded in 2022. (Figure 1)

Sex ratio at birth is at 108 males per 100 females
Of the total 506 registered live births in Santo Tomas in 2023, more males than females. There were 263 male births, accounting for 52.0 percent, while 243 female births made up 48.0 percent.
As a result, the sex ratio at birth was 108 males per 100 females. (Figure 2)
Highest recorded births in March, lowest in September
In 2023, most live births occurred in March with 55 births or 10.9 percent. Following the month of March, January recorded 54 births or 10.7 percent, and then April with 50 births or 9.9 percent.
Conversely, September had the least number of births, contributing only 25 births or 4.9 percent of the total. (Figure 3)

Nine out of ten births were medically attended
In 2023, majority of live births were medically attended by health professionals, with 476 births or 94.1 percent of the total live births.
On the other hand, only 27 births or 5.3 percent of births were delivered by traditional birth attendants, and 3 births or 0.6 percent were attended by others except health professionals and traditional birth attendants or hilot. (Figure 4)
Majority of births delivered at health facilities
In 2023, 472 births or 93.3 percent occurred in health facilities, such as hospitals, birthing clinics, outpatient care centers, specialized care centers, or similar facilities.
On the other hand, only 31 births or 6.1 percent were delivered at home, and 3 births or 0.6 percent were delivered in other locations. (Figure 5)
Majority of babies were born to mothers aged 25 to 29 years old
In 2023, most live births were born to mothers aged 25 to 29 years old, with 139 births or 27.5 percent.
However, babies born to adolescent mothers, with those younger than 20 years old, recorded 35 births, making up 6.9 percent of the total. (Figure 6)
