Two births per thousand population
In 2023, the Municipality of Asuncion recorded 108 live births, corresponding to a crude birth rate (CBR) of 1.8, or nearly 2 births per thousand population.
Over the past 5 years, live births have declined by 31.6 percent, from 158 in 2019 to 108 in 2023. A large decrease of 57.5 percent was observed in 2023 compared to the 254 recorded in 2022. (Figure 1)

More males than females
In 2023, Asuncion saw a higher number of male births compared to female births. There were 65 male births or 60.2 percent, and 43 female births or 39.8 percent.
This resulted in a sex ratio at birth of about 151:100, indicating that for every 100 female births, there were 151 male births. (Figure 2)
January recorded the highest number of registered births
In 2023, most live births occurred in January with 15 births or 13.9 percent. This was followed by August with 15 births or 13.0 percent, and September with 12 births or 11.1 percent.
In contrast, December had the least number of births, with 4 births or 3.7 percent. (Figure 3)

Majority of birth deliveries were traditionally attended
In 2023, majority of birth deliveries were traditionally attended in Asuncion. Traditional birth attendants attended 56 births or 51.9 percent, while 51 births or 47.2 percent were medically attended by health professionals, such as physicians, midwives, or nurses. (Figure 4)
Majority of births delivered at home
In 2023, most live births were delivered at home, with 60 births or 55.6 percent.
Conversely, there were 48 births or 44.4 percent were delivered in health facilities, such as hospitals, birthing clinics, specialized care centers, or similar facilities. (Figure 5)
Majority of babies were born to mothers aged 20 to 24 years old
In 2023, most live births were born to mothers aged 20 to 24 years old, with 28 births or 25.9 percent of the total.
On the other hand, babies born to adolescent mothers, or those mothers younger than 20 years old, recorded 17 births or 15.7 percent. (Figure 6)
