A resident of Davao del Norte needed at least PhP 2,279.00 to meet the monthly basic requirements to stay out of poverty in 2021. Hence, a family of five in Davao del Norte needed a monthly income of at least PhP 11,397.00 to meet their basic food and non-food needs.

This translates to an annual per capita poverty threshold of PhP 27,354 for 2021, up by 1.2 percent compared to the 2018 figure of PhP 27,034. Moreover, a monthly income of no less than PhP 1,591 is needed to suffice the basic food needs of an individual in Davao del Norte. Consequently, a five-member family needed a monthly income of at least PhP 7,956 to meet their basic food needs.

This translates to an annual per capita food threshold of PhP 19,095 for 2021, up by 0.3 percent compared to the 2018 figure of PhP 19,031.The poverty incidence of families in Davao del Norte was estimated at 7.3 percent, or roughly 7 out of 100 families were considered poor in 2021. The estimate was lower than the figure in 2018, which was estimated at 10.3 percent.

Similarly, the estimated number of poor families has dropped by 25.3 percent from 24,980 families in 2018 to 18,653 families in 2021.

Meanwhile, the proportion of families in Davao del Norte in extreme poverty whose incomes were not sufficient to meet basic food needs stood at 2.0 percent in 2021.

Consequently, the estimated number of subsistence poor families dropped by 7.2 percent from 5,446 families in 2018 to 5,054 in 2021.

The latest poverty estimates also indicated that 11 out of 100 individuals in Davao del Norte were not able to meet the basic food and non-food requirements in 2021. This figure was lower than the 2018 estimate of 13.4 percent.

The magnitude of poor individuals likewise declined by 19.3 percent, from 139,920 individuals in 2018 to 112,970 individuals in 2021.

The magnitude of poor individuals declined by 8.9 percent, from 33,979 individuals in 2018 to 30,958 individuals in 2021.

Income Gap The minimum income required to meet the basic food needs, satisfying the nutritional requirements set by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) to ensure that one remains economically and socially productive.

Income Gap

The average income shortfall, expressed in proportion to the poverty threshold, of families or individuals with income below the poverty threshold.

Poverty Threshold

The minimum income required to meet the basic food and non-food needs such as clothing, fuel, light and water, housing, rental of occupied dwelling units, transportation and communication, health and education expenses, non-durable furnishing, household operations and personal care and effects.

Poverty Incidence

The proportion of Filipino families or individuals with percapita income or expenditure less than the per capita poverty threshold to the total number of families or individuals.

Subsistence Incidence

The proportion of Filipino families or individuals whose incomes fall below the food threshold.

Poverty Gap

The total income or expenditure shortfall, expressed in proportion to the poverty threshold, of families or individuals with income ot expenditure beloew the poverty threshold, divided by the total number of families or individuals.

Severity of Poverty

The total of the squared income or expenditure shortfall, expressed in preportion to the poverty threshold, of families or individuals with income or expenditure below the poverty threshold, divided by the total number of families or individuals.
