     1. Inflation in Davao del Norte

The inflation in Davao del Norte for bottom 30% income households decreased by 4.1 percentage points in February 2025 (-1.7%) compared to its inflation rate in the same month last year, which was recorded at 2.4 percent. The current inflation rate (-1.7%) in the province is lower compared to the figure of the Philippines and Davao Region was recorded at 1.5 percent and -1.5 percent, respectively (Table A).

2. Contribution to the Inflation

Table C showed that the February 2025 inflation for the bottom 30% income households in Davao del Norte was mostly contributed by the indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.6%); housing, electricity, gas and other fuels (-3.3%); and transport (-1.9%).

The decrement in the inflation rate of the bottom 30% income households in Davao del Norte can be observed with its downward trend from 0.9 percent in January 2025 to -1.7 percent in February 2025. This trend was mainly contributed by the annual price decrease of food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.6%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-3.3%), and transport (-1.9%) (Table D).

Despite the decrease in the inflation rate of the province, the following commodity groups has exhibited an increase in inflation rate in February 2025:

  •     Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 4.1% to 6.7%);

  •     Clothing and footwear (from 0.5% to 0.7%)

  •     Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (from 1.4% to 1.6%);

  •     Health (from -1.4% to -1.1%); and

  •     Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services (from 2.3% to 2.7%).

It can also be observed that the following commodities has shown no sign of increase nor decrease in inflation rate compared to their corresponding rates in January 2025:

  •     Information and communication (0.0%);

  •     Recreation, sport and culture (3.8%);

  •     Education services (1.0%);

  •     Restaurants and accommodation services (0.0%); and

  •     Financial services (0.0%).

The bottom 30% income households inflation rate of the index for food has shown a downward trend from an inflation rate of 1.5 percent in January 2025 to 
-3.0 percent in February 2025. The trend of the food inflation was mostly attributed by the annual price decrease of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses (-13.7%), rice (5.4%), and fish and other seafood (-1.0%) (Table E).
