Fisheries production in Davao Region during the 2nd quarter went up from 11,073.71 metric tons in 2016 to about 12,180.24 metric tons this year or a growth of 9.99 percent. Municipal fisheries had the biggest contribution of 52.39 percent while aquaculture and commercial fisheries shared 40.21 percent and 7.39 percent to total fishery production, respectively. (See Figure 1)
Municipal fisheries produced 6,381.40 metric tons of fish. This represented a 16.25 percent increase from last year’s level. Marine municipal fisheries shared 99.15 percent for the output while inland municipal fisheries contributed 0.85 percent. Inland municipal also went up by 30.22 percent compared to same quarter last year. Aquaculture recorded a positive growth of 16.56 percent. However, the volume of production for commercial fisheries dropped by 34.84 percent from 1,382.12 metric tons last year to 900.58 metric tons same period last year. (see Table 1)

COMMERCIAL FISHERIES
The commercial fishery production decreased to 481.54 metric tons this year from 1,382.12 metric tons in same quarter last year to 900.58 metric tons in 2017 or a decline of 34.84 percent. The negative output were attributed to less number of fishing days due to more fishing vessels in Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur were under repair, temporary ceased operation of some fishing vessel in Davao Sur caused by water pollution coming from industrial plants and increased number of payaos installed in high seas of Davao Oriental which prohibits the fishing vessel to go near to prevent destruction. (see Table 2)

MUNICIPAL FISHERIES
Total municipal fish production grew from 5,489.37 metric tons to 6,381.40 metric tons or an increase of 16.25 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Marine sub-sector, which accounted for more than 99 percent of the total municipal fisheries production recorded a positive growth of 16.14 percent or an increment of 879.41 metric tons to last year’s output of 5,447.61 metric tons. The positive output was attributed to the increased of catch in the Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental due to an increase number of fishing days contributed by additional number of boats provided by DILG, BFAR and LGU for livelihood.
Meanwhile, fish catch from inland waters also recorded a positive growth of 30.22 percent or an increment of 12.62 metric tons from last year’s output of 41.76 metric tons. Reasons for increment is due to more fish catch contributed by increased fishing activities due to the opening of Lake Ambok in Davao Sur, more orders in Davao Oriental and no dry spell this quarter in Davao Norte. AQUACULTURE
The total volume of production from aquaculture in Davao Region darted up by 16.56 percent during the 2nd quarter of 2017 from 4.202.22 metric tons in 2016 to 4,898.25 metric tons same period this year. The positive output mainly attributed to the increase in production of brackishwater fishpond, freshwater fishpond, marine cage and freshwater cage.
The gainers were Davao Norte (56.65%), Davao Sur (14.14%) and Davao Oriental (16.88%). The increments were attributed to the increased production of brackishwater fishpond, freshwater fishpond, marine cage and freshwater cage. (see Table 4)
