Thirty-one births per thousand population in Davao del Norte registered in 2022

In 2022, Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) of Davao del Norte registered a total of 33,398 live births, corresponding to a crude birth rate (CBR) of 31.21, or approximately 31 births per thousand population. On average, 92 babies were born each day in the province, equating to around four births per hour.

Of these 33,398 live births, 16,175 were registered at the usual residence of mother, while 17,223 were recorded at the place of occurrence. Specifically, among those registered at the usual residence of mother, 8,464 were male and 7,711 were female. Meanwhile, of the births recorded at the place of occurrence, 8,996 were male and 8,227 were female (Figure 1).

More males were born than females

Figure 2 showed that majority of births in 2022 were male, with 17,460 males accounting 52.3 percent of all births, while there were 15,938 females (47.7 percent). This leads to a resulting sex ratio of 110 males per 100 females.

City of Tagum has the highest recorded birth rate

In Figure 3, the component City of Tagum accounted for 40.1 percent of live births in the place of occurrence, while usual residence of mother accounted for 26.8 percent.

The municipalities of Carmen (18.0%) ranked second, and followed by Kapalong (13.3%), while the municipality of Braulio E. Dujali (0.3 percent) had the least recorded births by place of occurrence.

With 19.4 percent of births by usual residence, the component City of Panabo had the highest rate after the City of Tagum, while the municipality of Talaingod had the lowest rates at 2.0 percent.

Most number of births were registered in December

Figure 4 showed that in 2022, the highest number of live births in Davao del Norte occurred in December, with 1,583 births or 9.191 percent of the registered total, followed closely by October with 1,582 births or 9.185 percent. On the other hand, least live births occurred in February, with 1,223 births, with 7.1 percent share of the total live births.

Almost all birth deliveries were medically attended

As illustrated in Figure 5, health professionals attended 96.1 percent of all live births in Davao del Norte, traditional birth attendants attended 3.5 percent, and others attended 0.4 percent.

It denotes a strong preference for professional maternity and child health care services in the cities and municipalities of Davao del Norte, as based on the place of occurrence and usual residence of mother.

 

Almost all births were delivered in health facilities

In 2022, 95.7 percent of all births were delivered in health facilities, including hospitals, birthing clinics, lying-in centers, outpatient care centers, and specialized care centers (Figure 6).

Moreover, 4.1 percent of all births took place at home, while 0.2 percent occurred in other unspecified locations.

 

 

 

Majority of babies were born to mothers aged 25-29 years old

Figure 7 showed that majority of babies registered at the place of occurrence and usual residence of mothers were born to mothers at aged between 25 to 29 years old, with 4,797 and 4,481 live births, respectively. This was followed by live births from mothers aged 20 to 24 years old, with 4,161 births at the place of occurrence and 3,953 births at the usual residence of mothers. Meanwhile, mothers 50 and older had only 1 registered live birth for both at the place of occurrence and usual residence of mothers.

Data on births of Davao del Norte presented in this special release were obtained from the timely and late registration of births from January to December 2022, at the Local Civil Registry Offices which were registered submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs). Figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration. This release includes births of foreign nationals that occurred in Davao del Norte during the reference period.
