PSA RSSO XI conducted the Regional Data Dissemination on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN2015) Socio-Demographic Characteristics Results on October 30, 2017, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites, Sta. Ana Avenue, Davao City. It was attended by national government agencies, local government units, academic institutions, private sectors, local media and non- government units. Selected PSA XI regional and provincial staff likewise attended the program.
New PSA XI Regional Director Eddie E. Nasol formally opened the program by giving a Welcome Remarks. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the national government agencies, private sector, media, and academic institution for the support given in the conduct of the 2015 POPCEN. In his message, he also stressed out the importance of the Socio-Demographic results of the POPCEN2015 in planning, formulation and program developments and researches and studies.
A couple of PSA XI senior staff were the presenters of the activity, Chief Statistical Specialist Pepito D. Amoyen of Davao del Norte discussed the Background of the 2015 Census of Population to let the participants know the process on how PSA apply the concepts and definitions on the conduct of the census. The presentation included the legal bases, objectives, scope and coverage, coordination mechanism, data items, data collection, the reference and enumeration time, and the data quality/assurance and. Supervising Statistical Specialist Ma. Leah C. Magracia talked the Highlights of the 2015 Census of Population. She showcased Davao Region’s socio-demographic results in terms of sex, age, marital status, birth registration and many others.
Similarly, a couple of invited speakers from the stakeholders gave a message on the importance of the POPCEN results in the different sectors. Under the planning sector, Chief Catherine A. Laguesma of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) cited the uses of the demographic results of the 2015 POPCEN in their formulation of policy, plans and program development to achieve the long-term vision and futuristic ambition of the country which dubbed as “AmbisyonNatin2040”, wherein a stable and comfortable lives will be achieved by Filipinos. Meanwhile, Dr. Sopremiano Antipolo, who represented for the academe, cited the significant role of statistics and Research & Development in Economic Growth. According to him, economic growth under Research & Development can be attained by the sum of acquisition (research), dissemination (extension) and utilization (development).
In order for the participants to raise issues, concerns and feedbacks an open forum was held which was facilitated by Chief Statistical Specialist Abraham Enrico E. Gulay, Jr.
The data dissemination ended with a closing remarks given by OIC-Chief Statistical Specialist Regelio T. Lebria. He thanked the participants for spending their time and interest to gain information on the result of the 2015 POPCEN.
