In light of the escalating concerns surrounding fraud, particularly to illicit services offered via social media and physical establishments, including the production, printing, and sale of counterfeit PhilIDs and civil registry documents (CRDs), as well as the alarming trend of foreign nationals acquiring Philippine passports through falsified CRDs, the Fraud Management Division (FMD) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Central Office, in collaboration with PSA RSSO XI, has taken proactive steps to address these threats to national security.
To combat these fraudulent activities and uphold the integrity of vital documents, a high-level coordination meeting was convened with the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) Field Unit 11. Chaired by Police Major (PMAJ) Edgar Bajan of CIDG RFU 11 and Officer-in-Charge Regional Director (OIC-RD) Randolph Anthony B. Gales of PSA RSSO XI, the strategic meeting aimed to foster collaboration between PSA and PNP for the effective handling and investigation of fraudulent activities. Given PSA's lack of police power, the collaboration seeks to leverage PNP-CIDG's expertise and support, especially in conducting entrapment operations targeting fraud.
In his closing remarks, PMAJ Edgar Bajan emphasized the crucial importance of sustained cooperation and coordinated efforts in the ongoing fight against fraud. OICRD Randolph Anthony B. Gales echoed this sentiment, affirming the commitment of PSA to work hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies to safeguard the integrity of vital documents and protect national security.
