Official Poverty Statistics of Davao del Norte: First Semester of 2021
A resident of Davao del Norte needed at least PhP 2,257 to meet his or her monthly basic requirements to stay out of poverty in the first semester of 2021. Hence, a family of five in Davao del Norte needed a monthly income of at least PhP 11,287 to meet their basic food and non-food needs.
On the other hand, a monthly income of no less than PhP 1,573 was needed by an individual in Davao del Norte to suffice for his or her basic food needs. Consequently, a five-member family residing in Davao del Norte needed a monthly income of at least PhP 7,867 to meet their basic food needs.
This translates to a first semester per capita food threshold of PhP 9,440 for 2021, up by 5.9 percent compared to the first semester of 2018 figure of PhP 8,917.
The poverty incidence of families in Davao del Norte was estimated at 13.6 percent, or roughly 14 out of 100 families were considered poor in the first semester of 2021. The estimate was lower than the figure in the first semester of 2018 which was estimated at 14.5 percent. Similarly, the estimated number of poor families has dropped by 7.7 percent from 37,398 families in the first semester of 2018 to 34,509 families in the first semester of 2021.
Meanwhile, the proportion of families in Davao del Norte in extreme poverty whose incomes were not sufficient to meet basic food needs stood at 4.2 percent in the first semester of 2021, Consequently, the estimated number of subsistence poor families dropped by 4.5 percent from 11,096 families in the first semester of 2018 to 10,595 in the first semester of 2021.
The latest poverty estimated also indicated that 18 out of 100 individuals in Davao del Norte were not able to meet the basic food and non-food requirements in the first semester of 2021. This figure was lower than the first semester of 2018 estimate of 18.9 percent. The magnitude of poor individuals likewise declined by 3.0 percent, from 196,474 individuals in the first semester of 2018 to 190,500 individuals in the first semester of 2021.
On the other hand, an increase in the proportion of individuals in Davao del Norte with incomes insufficient to meet the basic food needs was observed in the first semester of 2021. Subsistence incidence among population was estimated at 6.2 percent in the first semester of 2021 and 5.8 percent in the first semester of 2018. The magnitude of poor individuals increased by 7.9 percent, from 60,731 individuals in the first semester of 2018 to 65,508 individuals in the first semester of 2021.
