The proportion of Filipino families in Davao del Norte whose income fall below the poverty line to the total number of families was relatively low in the first semester of 2018, as a notable decrease to 14.5 percent in the poverty incidence was observed from the 27.2 percent figure in the same period of 2015. A family of five in Davao del Norte needed at least Php 12,720.00 to meet both basic food and non-food needs for a month.
Likewise, the proportion of Filipino families in Davao del Norte whose income fall below the food threshold dropped to 4.3 percent in the first semester of 2018 from settling at 11.1 percent in the same period of 2015. No less than Php 8,912.00 is needed by a family of five in Davao del Norte to meet the basic food needs.
Among the population in Davao del Norte, 19 in every 100 individuals were living below the poverty line while 6 in every 100 individuals were considered food poor.
In order to get out of poverty, a poor family of five needed an average additional monthly income of Php 2,862.00, or 22.5 percent of the poverty threshold, in the first semester of 2018. This is referred to as the income gap. In the first semester of 2015, the income gap in Davao del Norte was 28.3 percent, relative to the poverty threshold.
Moreover, a family of five in Davao del Norte needed an additional monthly income of at least Php 420.00, on the average, to move out of poverty in the first semester of 2018. This is 3.3 percent of the poverty threshold, 4.4 percentage points lower than the 7.7 percent figure in the same period in 2015, and is referred to as the poverty gap.

Food Threshold
The minimum income required to meet the basic food needs, satisfying the nutritional requirements set by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) to ensure that one remains economically and socially productive.
Poverty Threshold
The minimum income required to meet the basic food and non-food needs such as clothing, fuel, light and water, housing, rental of occupied dwelling units, transportation and communication, health and education expenses, non-durable furnishing, household operations and personal care and effects.
Poverty Incidence
The proportion of Filipino families or individuals with per capita income or expenditure less than the per capita poverty threshold to the total number of families or individuals.
Subsistence Incidence
The proportion of Filipino families or individuals whose incomes fall below the food threshold.
Income Gap
The average income shortfall, expressed in proportion to the poverty threshold, of families or individuals with income below the poverty threshold.
Poverty Gap
The total income or expenditure shortfall, expressed in proportion to the poverty threshold, of families or individuals with income or expenditure below the poverty threshold, divided by the total number of families or individuals.
Severity of Poverty
The total of the squared income or expenditure shortfall, expressed in proportion to the poverty threshold, of families or individuals with income or expenditure below the poverty threshold, divided by the total number of families or individuals.
