The total population of Davao Region as of 01 July 2024 was 5,389,422 persons. This population count is based on the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) which has been declared official for all purposes by the President of the Philippines through Proclamation No. 973 dated 11 July 2025. The conduct of periodic censuses aims to provide government planners, policymakers, and administrators with essential data for crafting social and economic development plans and programs.

The population of Davao Region in 2024 is higher by 145,886 compared with the population of 5,243,536 in 2020, and by 496,104 compared with the population of 4,893,318 in 2015. (Table 1)

 

 

The region’s population growth rate (PGR) slowed to 0.66 percent annually from 2020 to 2024. In comparison, the rate at which the region’s population grew annually from 2015 to 2024 was higher at 1.09 percent. (Table 2)

 

Davao Region is composed of five provinces, one highly urbanized city, five component cities, 43 municipalities, and 1,162 barangays.

Among the five provinces comprising the region, Davao del Norte had the biggest population in 2024 with 1,143,931 persons, followed by Davao de Oro with 783,775 persons, Davao del Sur with 705,129 persons, and Davao Oriental with 590,042 persons. Meanwhile, Davao Occidental had the smallest population with 317,159 persons. (Table 3)


The City of Davao, the only highly urbanized city in the region, posted a population of 1,848,947 persons.

 

Davao del Sur was the fastest growing province in the region with an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 0.86 percent from 2020 to 2024. It was followed by Davao Oriental with a PGR of 0.56 percent, Davao de Oro with 0.50 percent, and Davao del Norte with 0.40 percent. Davao Occidental posted the lowest provincial PGR of 0.03 percent. (Table 4)

The City of Davao posted a PGR of 0.96 percent.
 

 

Among the component cities and municipalities in the region, the largest in terms of population size is the City of Tagum, Davao del Norte with 300,042 persons. It was followed by the City of Panabo, Davao del Norte with 211,242 persons, and the City of Digos, Davao del Sur with 192,063 persons.(Table 5)

 

Meanwhile, Boston in Davao Oriental is the least populous municipality in Davao Region with 15,074 persons. It was followed by Sarangani (22,041 persons) in Davao Occidental, and Tarragona (27,349 persons) in Davao Oriental. (Table 6)

 

Of the 1,162 barangays in Davao Region, the largest in terms of population size is Bucana in the City of Davao with 83,192 persons. It was followed by Buhangin (Pob.) with 70,979 persons, and Talomo (Pob.) with 65,379 persons, both in the City of Davao. The rest of the top ten most populous barangays in the region are all located in the City of Davao, except Tibal-og (Pob.) in Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte and Mankilam in the City of Tagum, Davao del Norte, which were ranked eighth and tenth, respectively. (Table 7)

 

On the other hand, the smallest barangay in terms of population size is Tagaytay in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur with a population of 17 persons. This was followed by Kibongbong in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur (292 persons), Lapla in Sulop, Davao del Sur (317 persons), Lantawan in Lupon Davao Oriental (338 persons), and Pagsabangan in New Bataan, Davao de Oro (348 persons). (Table 7)

 

The 2024 POPCEN marks the 16th Census of Population in the Philippines since the first census in 1903.
