Volume of Corn Production increased by 9.9 percent in 4th Quarter 2024

The total volume of corn production in the province marked an increase of 9.9 percent estimated at 15,911.04 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024 from 14,475.44 metric tons in the same quarter in the year 2023. Furthermore, the total area harvested for corn increased by 8.3 percent from 8,961 hectares in 2023 to 9,701 hectares in 2024, as shown in Table 1.

White corn tops production in the province in 4th quarter 2024

By crop type, white corn production increased by 9.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024 with 15,176.00 metric tons from 13,826.84 metric tons in the same period in 2023 as shown in Figure 1. Meanwhile, yellow corn production also rose by 13.3 percent, from 648.60 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 735.04 metric tons in the same period of 2024 as shown in Figure 2.

Area harvested for corn increased by 8.3 percent

Area harvested for corn increased by 8.3, from 8,691.0. hectares in 4th quarter of 2023 to 9,701.85 hectares in 4th quarter of 2024. The area harvested for white corn recorded an increase of 8.1 percent from 8,773.00 hectares in fourth quarter of 2023 to 9,485.00 hectares in the same period in 2024 as shown in Figure 3. On the other hand, the area harvested for yellow corn also increase by 15.3 percent from 188.00 hectares to 216.85 hectares in fourth quarter of 2024 compared to 2023 in the same period as shown in Figure 4.

Yield for corn production increased by 1.5 percent

Yield for corn production in the 4th quarter of 2024 increased by 1.5 percent compared to same period in 2023, from 1.62 metric tons to 1.64 metric tons. Yield for white corn production in the fourth quarter of 2024 recorded an increase of 1.5 percent from 1.58 metric tons per hectare in fourth quarter of 2023 to 1.60 metric tons in 2024 as shown in Figure 5. Meanwhile yield for yellow corn decreases by 1.8 percent compared last year same quarter from 3.45 metric tons per hectare to 3.39 metric tons per hectare in 2024 as shown in Figure 6.

TECHNICAL NOTES

Area Harvested - is refers to the total area harvested for palay during the reference period. It may be less than or equal to the total area planted for palay.

Crop Production - this refers to quantity produced and actually harvested during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvesters’ and threshers’ shares, reserved, etc. Corn production from seed growers which are intended for seed purposes is excluded from the survey.

White Corn – a type of corn used primarily for human consumption.

Yellow Corn - is used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.

Yield - an indicator of productivity derived by dividing the total production by the area harvested.
