October of every year is National Statistics Month!

This year, PSA Davao de Oro successfully opened the 34th National Statistics Month (NSM) with a motorcade last 02 October 2023. About 50 regular personnel, contract of service workers (COSWs), and Statistical Researchers (SRs) participated along the major streets of the Poblacion area of Nabunturan.

The participation from the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) member agencies: Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Philippine National Police (PNP), PHO (Provincial Health Office), and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) makes it even more meaningful as they adhere to the call of PSC Resolution No.5, series of 2023, “Enjoining Government Agencies, Local Government Units, Private Sectors, and the Academe to Support the Celebration of the 34th National Statistics Month in Davao de Oro”. Further, the support from the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) personnel sealed the success of this momentous activity.

Following the motorcade, was the opening ceremony that took place at PSA Davao de Oro Provincial Statistical Office. CSS Abraham Enrico E. Gulay, Jr. in his welcome message expressed his gratitude for the support given by the PSC member agencies and the BFP, a first in the many years that the office conducted its yearly motorcade.

Afterward, the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) Result was shown via an audio-visual presentation. A truly relevant activity to this year’s 34th NSM theme: “Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines” which emphasizes the importance of data and statistics in enhancing health outcomes.

Lastly, the opening will not be the same without the yearly Statistical Quiz for COSWs and SRs, hence conducted to uphold the true aim of NSM which is to enhance and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics, not only to the public and private sectors but most importantly to the men and women who are the front lines of statistical data collection.

Stay tuned for the next line-up of activities. Together let us make this month-long celebration a remarkable one!
