The latest poverty data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that poverty incidence of families or the proportion of families with per capita income falling below the poverty line, in Davao Region stood at 11.3 percent in 2023. This translates to about 11 in every 100 Davaoeño families were considered poor or have income below the amount needed to buy the minimum basic food and non-food needs.
The poverty incidence among families in Davao Region was observed to be higher than the national incidence in 2018 and 2023. (Figure 1)
The annual per capita threshold for Davao Region was estimated at PhP 31,521 in 2023. This means that a Davaoeño needed at least PhP 2,627 to meet both his/her monthly basic food and non-food requirements. Hence, for a family of five members, a monthly income of at least PhP 13,134 was needed to stay out of poverty.
On the other hand, the annual per capita food threshold was estimated at PhP 22,065 in 2023. This translates to at least PhP 1,839 needed income of an individual to sustain his/her monthly basic food needs. Thus, for a family of five members, PhP 9,194 was the calculated amount to be able to buy their monthly basic food requirements.
