The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) XI in coordination with the Subnational Economic Accounts Division (SEAD) of the Macroeconomic Accounts Service (MAS) hosted the conduct of the Training/Workshop on Data to Non-benchmark Accounts towards the compilation of 2022 Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) last 18 – 20 July, 2022 held at Waterfront Insular Hotel in Lanang, Davao City.
The PPA provides a picture of the economic performance of the provinces and highly urbanized cities (HUCs). Further, PPA is a source of indicators to monitor the economic development or progress at the local level. The compilation of PPA is an initiative of the PSA to address the increasing demand for local level statistics.
This activity aimed to raise awareness on the methodologies of non-benchmark estimation and determine issues and challenges on non-benchmark estimation of the PPA
The said training/workshop was participated by the regional and provincial staff of PSA Davao Region, Western Visayas, entral Visayas, Northern Mindanao and SOCCSKSARGEN facilitated by the industry specialists from the PSA Central Office and personnel from the Office of the National Statistician. It was also graced by the presence of Assistant National Statistician Vivian R. Ilarina.
Officer-in-Charge, Deputy National Statistician Sectoral Statistics Office Divina Grace L. Del Prado, rendered a message to all participants. She mentioned that despite limitations in the data, the PSA was able to produce PPA in 2021, and thus, will continue to move forward despite challenges to make data more relevant for planning purposes.
The discussion started with Mr. Florande S. Polistico, Chief Statistical Specialist of SEAD-MAS, presenting the Production Approach of Gross Domestic Product Compilation and Single Extrapolation Method. He discussed the linking of Benchmark and Non-benchmark Estimation and analyzing the derived indicators.
The three-day activity has been a huge success with the involvement of the participants during the workshop proper. Different opinions and feedbacks were obtained which were duly addressed and noted to further enhance the data processing and collection of the PPA non-benchmark estimates.
