Thirty-three births per thousand population
In 2021, a total of 32,155 live births were registered in Davao del Norte. This constitutes to 33.07 crude birth rate (CBR) or 33 birth per thousand population
On the average, 88 babies were born daily, which translate to approximately four (4) babies born per hour in the province.
Out of the total 32,155 live births 15,344 were registered at the usual resident of the mothers, while 16,811 were recorded at the place of occurrence. (Figure 1)
Relatedly, 8,003 male births and 7,341 female births were at the usual residence of their mother, while 8,743 male births and 8,068 females were listed at the place of occurrence.

More males were born than females
In 2021, more males (16,746, or 52%) were born than females (15,409, or 48%), resulting in a sex ratio of 109 males per 100 females. (Figure 2)

Highest occurrence of births recorded in City of Tagum
Of the total live births in Davao del Norte, births for place of occurrence and usual residence of mothers were recorded mostly in the City of Tagum, with 43.0 percent and 27.9 percent respectively. Next highest live births at place of occurrence were from Carmen (14.2%), Kapalong (13.3%) and City of Panabo (11.8%). On the other hand, least live births at place of occurrence were found to be in Braulio E. Dujali (0.1 percent), San Isidro (0.6 percent) and Talaingod (1.0 percent).

Most number of births registered in October
Figure 4 revealed that in 2021, most registered births occurred in October at 1,472 or 9.58 percent of the total births in Davao del Norte. It was followed by the month of September (9.20 percent share), and November (8.95 percent share). On the other hand, the month of February had the least number of births at 956 with 6.23 percent share.

Almost all birth deliveries were medically attended
Of the total number of births in Davao del Norte, 96 percent were attended by health professionals (physical, midwife, or nurse). (Figure 5)
The number of births by place of occurrence and by usual residence of mother showed the large proportion of births attended by health professionals in cities and municipalities of Davao del Norte. An indication that mothers in Davao del Norte prefer the services of health professionals in terms of maternal and child health care. Roughly 70 percent of births that occurred in Talaingod were medically attended, while the rest were attended by traditional birth attendants.

Almost all births were delivered in health facilities
In 2021, 96 percent of births were delivered in health facility, which was either a hospital, birthing clinic, lying in, outpatient care center, specialized care center, and the like. Conversely, only 3 percent of the total births were delivered at home. While other not listed facility got less than one percent of the total live birth occurred in 2021. (Figure 6)

Majority of babies were born to mothers aged 25-29 years old
Majority of births in 2021 registered at the place of occurrence of the mothers aged 25-29 years old at 4,720 (28.1%) births, followed by mothers aged 20-24 years old (4,084 or 24.3%), and mothers aged 30-34 years old (3,675 or 21.9%). Babies born to adolescent mothers, those younger than 20 years old was registered at 1,894 (11.3%).
On the other hand, there 38 live births were registered to mother under age 15, the same number with those mothers who gave birth at age 45-49 years old. (Figure 7)

Figure 8 showed that majority of mothers who gave birth at their usual residence were also aged 25-29 years old (4,226 or 27.5%).
This was followed by birth of mothers at their adolescence (15-29 years old) with 4,084 (28.1%) births, and mothers aged 20-24 years old (3,308 or 21.6%).
The age groups with least registered births where from mothers who were under 15 years old and mothers aged 45-49 years old.

Explanatory Note
Data on births of Davao del Norte presented in this special release were obtained from the timely and late registered births from January to December 2021, at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars all throughout the country, and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs). Figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration. This release includes births of foreign nationals that occurred in Davao del Norte during the reference period.
