Despite the alarming COVID-19 pandemic, the Local Government Unit of Malalag, Davao del Sur headed by Mayor Peter Paul T. Valentin welcome Step 2 Registration of Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). To celebrate the grand opening of PhilSys Registration Center for Step 2 Registration, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Davao del Sur held a ribbon cutting ceremony last August 26, 2021 at Malalag Central Elementary School, Poblacion, Municipality of Malalag, Davao del Sur.

An opening remark was given by Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Mr. Randolph Anthony B. Gales apprise to congratulate Municipality of Malalag for another milestone having Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 Registration in their locality. In attendance were Ms. Munria Lauban- Banto, PhilSys Provincial Focal Person together with Mr. Lord Anthony Jandayan, Assistant PhilSys Provincial Focal Person, Mr. Pol Yuro, Municipal Civil Registrar, Hon. Patroceño Alcoba, Kagawad, Mr. Epifanio M. Arañez, School Principal, Municipal Civil Registration Staff and PhilSys Registration Team (PRT). Municipal Mayor, Hon. Peter Paul T. Valentin gave his message in full support for PhilSys. He expressed how excited the residents of Malalag for the long wait is over on National ID. Hon. Valentin encourage that everyone must be vaccinated especially the PhilSys Registration Team.

On the first day of operation, PRT Malalag catered a total of 434 registrants. There were four (4) teams in the Registration Center and about to schedule a Mobile Registration on the following week to accommodate some constituents in far-flung barangay.
