1. Regional Headline Inflation
The Davao Region’s inflation rate for the bottom 30% income households declined further to -1.5 percent in February 2025 from 0.8 percent in January 2025. In February 2024, the region’s inflation was higher at 5.4 percent. (Table 1 and Figure 1).
The downtrend in the region’s overall inflation for the bottom 30% income households in January 2025 were primarily due to the slower annual growth in the indices of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at -3.3 percent from -0.1 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuels at -2.2 percent from -0.3 percent; and Transport at -1.7 percent from 0.2 percent.
Moreover, the following commodity groups recorded slower annual increments in February 2025 compared to January 2025:
a. Clothing and Footwear at 2.8 percent from 3.3 percent;
b. Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance at 3.6 percent from 3.8 percent;
c. Recreation, Sport, and Culture at 6.8 percent from 7.0 percent;
d. Restaurants and Accommodation Services at 5.0 percent from 5.8 percent; and
e. Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 3.0 percent from 3.1 percent.
On the other hand, the commodity groups of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco at 4.0 percent from 3.7 percent; Health at 3.1 percent from 2.9 percent; and Information and Communication at 0.7 percent from 0.3 percent, recorded faster price movements than the previous month.
Meanwhile, the commodity groups of Education Services at 2.7 percent; and Financial Services at 0.0 percent retained its previous month’s inflation rates.
2. Davao Region Food Inflation
The Food inflation for the Bottom 30% Income Households at the regional level decreased to -3.6 percent in February 2025, from -0.3 percent in the previous month. In February 2024, the Food inflation was higher at 10.4 percent. (Table 3)
The main contributor to the downtrend of overall food inflation in the region in February 2025 was Cereals and Cereal Products, at -9.4 percent from -6.6 percent. Additionally, contributing to the downtrend in Food inflation were:
a. Vegetables, Tubers, Plantains, Cooking Bananas and Pulses at -7.0 percent from 7.9 percent;
b. Fish and Other Seafood at -1.6 percent from 4.2 percent;
c. Fruits and Nuts at 1.5 percent from 2.4 percent;
d. Milk, Other Dairy Products and Eggs at 3.7 percent from 3.9 percent; and
e. Ready-Made Food and Other Food Products N.E.C. at 6.2 percent from 6.3 percent.
On the other hand, the following commodity groups recorded a faster year-on-year growth, namely:
a. Meat and Other Parts of Slaughtered Land Animals, at 4.5 percent from 3.4 percent;
b. Oils and Fats at 31.2 percent from 29.1 percent; and
c. Sugar, Confectionery, and Desserts at -3.2 percent from -6.0 percent.
3. Regional Inflation Rates
At the national level, the country's inflation for the bottom 30% income households decreased to 1.5 percent from 2.4 percent in January 2025. (Table 4)
Among the 17 administrative regions, Region II (Cagayan Valley) had the highest inflation at 3.7 percent, followed by Region IV (CALABARZON) at 3.0 percent, and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 2.7 percent. On the other hand, Region XI (Davao Region) had the lowest inflation at -1.5 percent. (Table 4 and Figure 2)
