Inflation in Davao del Norte
The inflation in Davao del Norte for bottom 30% income households decreased by 5.6 percentage points in March 2024 (2.3%) compared to its inflation rate in the same month last year, which was recorded at 7.9 percent. The current inflation rate (2.3%) in the province is lower compared to the inflation in the Philippines and Davao Region, which stood at 4.6 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively (Table A).

Contribution to the Inflation
Table C showed that the March 2024 inflation for the bottom 30% income households in Davao del Norte was mostly contributed by the indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.8%); transport (3.6%); and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services (3.8%).

The decrement in the inflation rate of the bottom 30% income households in Davao del Norte can be observed with its downward trend from 2.4 percent in February 2024 to 2.3 percent in March 2024. This decrease was mainly contributed by the slower annual increase of the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages from a rate of 9.0 percent in February 2024 to 8.8 percent in March 2024. This was followed by the indices of transport (from 4.8% to 3.6%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (from 11.7% to 10.7%) (Table D).
Despite the decrease of inflation rate of the province in March 2024, an increase in the inflation rate compared last month can be noticed for the index for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.
The following commodities has shown no sign of increase nor decrease in inflation rate in March 2024 compared to their corresponding rates in the last month:
Clothing and footwear (7.4%);
Information and communication (0.0%);
Recreation, sport and culture (9.7%);
Education services (3.2%);
Restaurants and accommodation services (1.4%); and
Financial services (-0.1%)
The bottom 30% income households inflation rate of the index for food has shown a downward trend from an inflation rate of 9.5% in February 2024 to 9.3% in March 2024. The trend of the food inflation was mostly attributed by the slower annual increase in the index for fish and other seafood, which recorded an inflation rate of 0.5% in March 2024 from a rate of 3.4% in February 2024. This was followed by the indices for milk, other dairy products and eggs (from 2.5% to 0.5%); and meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (from -1.9% to -2.2%) (Table E.)
