The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)–Davao del Norte Provincial Statistical Office(DavNor PSO) participated the recently concluded Training of Statistical Researchers for the Conduct of 2022 Survey on Costs and Returns (SCR) of Palay Production. It was held successfully on July 25-29, 2022 and facilitated by PSA-Regional Statistical Services Office XI.

The SCR of palay production is one of the agricultural surveys conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR). It generates data on the cost structure of palay production, and average use of materials and labor inputs, measures of profitability, and other socio- economic characteristics of palay farming in the country. Generated data will serve as benchmark on annual updating of the database on costs and returns of palay production. The data collection for the July 2022 Round in Davao del Norte is set to start on 01 August 2022 until 12 August 2022, while the second round is scheduled to be conducted in January 2023.

The domain of the survey is the province. Its 143 respondents are taken using a two-stage sampling scheme, which is employed with the Palay producing barangays as the Primary Sampling Units (PSUs), and the Palay farming households as the Secondary Sampling Unit (SSUs). The statistical information gathered in this survey will serve as bases for planning and programming activities of rice farmers. Moreover, the data on costs and returns of palay production can be used by government, non-government planners and policy makers in designing appropriate programs and projects to boost the growth and development of Palay industry In line with this, PSA-DavNor PSO enjoins the support of Local Government Units and farming households in this survey to ensure accurate and complete collection of information needed in the conduct of 2022 SCR of Palay Production.
