Among the 17 Regions, BARMM reported the highest LFPR at 75.9 percent, while Bicol Region has the lowest rate at 61.1 percent. Eight regions have lower LFPR than the national estimate at 65.1 percent: CALABARZON, Central Luzon, Ilocos Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, NCR, Cagayan Valley and Bicol Region. Comparing to April 2022's LFPR, BARMM have the highest increase in terms of percentage points from 66.9 percent to 75.9 percent.
Davao Region’s employment rate attained 96.7 percent
Employment rate or the proportion of employed persons to the total labor force in Davao Region was at 96.7 percent in April 2023. This is an estimated increase of 34.6 thousand more Davaoeños with work compared to January 2023. In addition, Davao Region's employment rate for April 2023 was higher than the national estimate of 95.5 percent.
Cagayan Valley has the highest employment rate among all regions at 97.6 percent, 2.1 percentage points higher than the national estimate. Ten other regions recorded higher employment rate compared to the national employment rate: CAR, Zamboanga Peninsula, MIMAROPA, Caraga, Davao Region, Bicol Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas and BARMM. Bicol Region showed the highest increase of 2.6 percentage points from January 2023 at 93.4 percent to April 2023 at 96.1 percent.
Unemployment rate was recorded at 3.3 percent
In April 2023, Davao Region posted an unemployment rate at 3.3 percent. This is lower compared to January 2023 unemployment rate with 4.5 percent and 1.2 percentage points lower than the national estimate of 4.5 percent.
Unemployment rates in five regions of the country reporting higher than the national estimate of 4.5 percent in April 2023 were: CALABARZON (5.5%), NCR (5.3%), Northern Mindanao (5.3%), Central Visayas (5.2%) and Central Luzon (4.7%).
Davao Region’s Underemployment rate in the country is at 8.7 percent
Underemployed persons are employed persons who: expressed their desire to have additional hours of work in their present job or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer hours of work. In April 2023, 8.7 percent of total employed Davaoeños reported to be underemployed. The underemployment rate for April 2023 was higher by 2.3 percentage points than January 2023 (6.4%).
Six other regions with underemployment rate higher than the national estimate of 12.9 percent were: SOCCSKSARGEN, Bicol Region, Caraga, Eastern Visayas, MIMAROPA, and CALABARZON. SOCCSKSARGEN has the highest underemployment rate with 29.2 percent which is 16.3 percentage points higher than the national estimate.
