The municipality of Matanao had a total population of 60,493 individuals based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing or 2020 CPH. With 100% being the household population.    

Of the 60.5 thousand household population in 2020, 51.9 percent or 31.4 thousand individuals were male and 48.1 percent or 29.1 thousand individuals were female. Categorically by age group, 19.4 thousand (32.1%) were young dependents or individuals under 15 years old while 37.7 thousand (62.3%) were the working-age group (15 to 64 years old) or the economically-active population. The remaining 3,382 (5.6%) were old dependents or individuals 65 years old and over. Individuals aged 0 to 14 years old, 15 to 64 years old, and 65 years old and over accounted for 33.5, 61.5, and 5.0 percent, respectively, of the household population of Matanao in 2015. (Figure 1).

Furthermore, among the age group of 0 to 54 years old, the number of males (87.6%) exceeded that of the number of females (86.5%). On the other hand, among the age group of 55 years old and over, there were fewer males (12.4%) than females (13.5%). A similar trend was also observed in 2015. (Figure 1).

 

Computed median age is at 25.0 years

1. The median age in 2020 was 25.0 years. The median age of 25.0 indicates that half of the entire population were aged less than 25.0 and the other half were over the age of 25.0.

Sex Ratio remained at 108 males per 100 females

2. Of the total household population in 2020, 51.9 percent were male and 48.1 percent were female. This translates to 108 males for every 100 females. Categorically by age group, individuals under 15 years old had a sex ratio of 106 males per 100 females, individuals aged 15 to 64 years old also had a sex ratio of 111 males per 100 females, and individuals aged 65 years old and over had a sex ratio of 86 males per 100 females. (Figure 2).

 

Dependency Ratio decreased to 60 dependents for every 100 individuals in the working-age group

3. The overall dependency ratio in 2020 was 60 dependents for every 100 individuals in the working-age group or economically-active population. Among the 60 dependents, 51 were young dependents and nine were old dependents. A higher trend was observed in 2015, where the dependency ratio was computed at 63 dependents, with 54 young dependents and eight old dependents

Individuals under five years of age have a sex ratio of 103 males per 100 females

4. Comprising 11.7 percent or 6,562 individuals of the total household population in 2020 were children below the age of five. A decline compared to the 11.8 percent or 6,364 individuals posted in 2015. The sex ratio also decreased to 103 males per 100 females in 2020 from 111 in 2015. (Table 2).

 

School-Age Population computed at 38.4 percent

5. The school-age population, consisting of 5 to 24-year-olds, accounted for 39.1 percent or 23.7 thousand of the 60.5 thousand household population in 2020. This Page 4 of 7 was lower than the result reported in 2015 which was 40.3 percent or 22.8 thousand. (Table 2 and Figure 3).

 

More than three-fifths of the household population were of voting age

6. The voting-age population or individuals aged 18 years and over account for 62.0 percent, or 37.5 thousand, of the total household population of Matanao in 2020. This is an increase from 60.7 percent, or 34.4 thousand, from 2015. (Table 2 and Figure 4).

 

Females outnumber males within the senior population

7. Of the total household population in 2020, senior citizens or individuals aged 60 years and over totaled 5,374, or 9.6 percent. This was higher than the 8.3 percent reported in 2015. Females (51.5%) outnumber males (48.5%) within the senior population in 2020 translating to a sex ratio of 94 males per 100 females. A lower trend was observed in 2015 with the senior population having a sex ratio of 90 males per 100 females. (Table 2 and Figure 5).

 

Female household population of reproductive age stayed at 49.5 percent

8. Totaling to 14.4 thousand individuals were women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years old). This was about 49.5 percent of the total female household population in 2020 – the same trend reported in 2015. (Table 2 and Figure 6).

 

Aging index in 2020 increased by 4.0 points

9. Aging index refers to the number of seniors (aged 60 years and over) per 100 children younger than 15 years old in a specific population. Thus, the higher the index is, the older the population results. In 2020, the aging index was 27.7 percent, roughly translating to about three seniors per 10 children younger than 15 years old. The aging index in 2015 was 23.7 percent. (Table 2 and Figure 7).
