Live Births, Marriages and Deaths in Davao City and Davao Del Sur
The Province of Davao del Sur and Davao City registered a total of 42,592 Live Births by the Usual Residence of the Mother, 10,414 Marriages by Month and Place of marriage, and listed a total of 15,516 Deaths by the Usual Residence of the deceased in the year 2019. Relative to Davao Region’s registered Vital Events, Davao City recorded the most number of registered Vital Events, that is, 31,780 Live Births (36.99%) of 85,905 Live Births (Davao Region); 7,871 Marriages (35.94%) of 21,901 Marriages (Davao Region); and 11,146 Deaths (34.42%) of 32,384 Deaths (Davao Region).
On the other hand, the Province of Davao del Sur was one with the least figures. Specifically, 10,812 Live Births comprising 12.59% of Davao Region; 2,543 Marriages accounting for 11.61% of Davao Region; and 4,370 Deaths composing of 13.49% of Davao Region.
Male dominance on Live Births in 2019
In 2019, records on live births showed a dominance in newborn males against female babies both for Davao City and Davao del Sur from January 2019 to December in the same year. Of 31, 780 Live Births in Davao City, a total of 16, 664 males born compared to 15, 116 females. While in Davao del Sur, a total of 5, 736 male babies were born compared to 5, 076 female babies. An incurred difference of 1, 548 and 660 newborn males against females for Davao City and Davao del Sur respectively. Similarly, in Davao Region, male babies were much higher of 44, 959 born compared to 40, 946 female babies.
September and October: Recorded the Highest Live Births
Among the Months of Occurrence in the year 2019, months of September and October registered the highest number of Live Births in Davao City and Davao del Sur respectively. Davao City recorded 2,911 Live Births in September while Davao del Sur had 969 newborn in October. Moreover, Davao City and Davao del Sur Live Births in other months are as follows respectively: 2,722 & 895 in January; 2,299 & 787 in February; 2,451 & 848 in March; 2,506 & 849 in April; 2,615 & 919 in May; 2,680 & 874 in June; 2,565 & 918 in July; 2,591 & 894 in August; 960 for Davao del Sur in September; 2,786 for Davao City in October; 2,844 & 940 in November; And 2,810 & 959 in December.
Most Preferred Wedding Months: January and December 2019
As shown in figure 4, on the Months of December (with 958 Marriages) and January (with 301 Marriages) registered the most number of Marriages in Davao City and Davao del Sur respectively. On the other hand, Davao City on November with 424 Marriages and Davao del Sur on August with 142 Marriages were the least on its record. Davao City recorded a total of 7,871 Marriages in 2019 while Davao del Sur recorded a total of 2,543 Marriages in the same year.
Age group 25 to 29 is the most preferred ages to get married in 2019
With reference to the place and month of occurrence, men and women preferred to get married at the age group of 25 to 29 in 2019 for both Davao City and Davao del Sur as shown in Figure 5 below. In Davao City, a total of 2,699 males and 2,987 females got married at the aforementioned ages. Similarly, a total of 898 males and 895 females tied their wedding knot in Davao del Sur. Marriages on the outliers of ages below 20 and 60 and above also showed significant numbers in 2019. For Davao City, 38 males and 235 females got married at ages 15 to 19 with 1 female under the age of 15, and 165 males and 46 females got married at the age of 60 and over. While for Davao del Sur, 38 males and 178 females got married at ages 15 to 19 with 1 female under 15, and 33 males and 9 females got married at the age of 60 and over.
High Mortality recorded on October and November 2019
Per the Usual Residence and Months of Occurrence of the deceased in the year 2019, Davao City and Davao del Sur recorded the highest number of deaths on the Months of October with 1,053 deaths and November with 411 deaths respectively. Davao City, from January 2019 to December 2019 (excluding the month of October), registered deaths are as follows: 946; 879; 904; 878; 883; 873; 919; 886; 921; 1,028; and 976. Meanwhile, the Province of Davao del Sur recorded deaths from January to December in the same year (excluding the month of November) are as follows: 400, 365,338, 330, 376, 343, 344, 343, 329, 398, and 393. As such, the month of June had the least deaths for Davao City while Davao del Sur had the least deaths in the month of September.
Deaths in 2019: More Males died than Females
Of the 15,516 Deaths (by Usual Residence) registered both in Davao City and Davao del Sur in 2019, a total of 9,029 males died which is significantly higher than that of 6,487 deaths of females. As shown in Figure 7, more male deaths recorded in Davao City and Davao del Sur. That is, 6,481 deaths (males) incurred compared to 4,665 deaths (females) with a difference of 1,816 deaths in Davao City. While in Davao del Sur, 2,548 deaths (males) recorded compared to 1,822 deaths (females) with a difference of 726 deaths. For 2019 deaths statistics in reference to age groups, in Davao City, most men died at the ages of 65 to 69 with 762 deaths while most women died at more older ages of 85 and over with 600 deaths.In Davao del Sur, most men also died at the ages of 65 to 69 with 275 deaths while most women also died more older ages of 85 and over with 222 deaths.
TECHNICAL NOTES
- Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.
- Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.
- Live Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached; each product of such a birth is considered liveborn.
- Marriage is a contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.
- Death refers to the permanent disappearance of all evidence of life at any time after live birth has taken place (postnatal cessation of vital function without capability of resuscitation).
- Usual Residence refers to the place where the person habitually or permanently resides.
- Place of Occurrence refers to the place where the vital event took place.
