The Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) XI convened its 2019 fourth quarter meeting on 13 December 2019 held at the NEDA-RDC XI Center Conference Hall, Bangkal, Davao City. There were 18 out of 29 members (62.1 percent) attended during the meeting, which was presided by NEDA Regional Director and RSC Chairperson, Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim. During this meeting, following were the business agenda: (1) 30th National Statistics Month Report/14th National Convention on Statistics;

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)-Davao in coordination with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Davao Region hosted the 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) Closing Ceremony on 30 October 2019 at the 3/F Conference Room BSP-Davao, Quirino Ave., Davao City. The collaborative activity was attended by various stakeholders in the region, namely, the National Line Agencies, Local Government Units, academe, media and from the private and public banking sectors.

On behalf of BSP-Davao Director Atty. Leonides D. Sumbi, Officer-In-Charge Nestor Bastareche gave the Opening Remarks of the activity. His message focused on data innovation for the effective and sound monetary policy.

Davao Region’s inflation continued to drop to 0.3 in the month of September from 1.5 percent in August 2019. This is the lowest inflation recorded in Davao region since October 2015, in which the inflation rate was 0.7 percent. Relatedly, purchasing power of peso (PPP) remained at 82 centavos.

The inflation per province was expected to go down as the Inflation of Davao Region declined. Davao Oriental retained the lowest inflation at negative 1.1 percent in the region, followed by Davao del Norte (0.2%), and Davao del Sur (0.4%). However, Compostela Valley has the highest inflation in the region at 1.2 percent (see Table 1).

Davao Region’s inflation slowed further to 1.5 percent in August 2019. This is the lowest inflation recorded in Davao region since January 2016, in which the inflation rate was 2.3. Relatedly, purchasing power of peso (PPP) remained at 83 centavos.

Expectedly, Inflation rates per province went down, with Davao Oriental having the lowest inflation at negative 0.7 percent, followed by Davao Del Norte (0.9%), and Compostela Valley (1.9).

Davao Region’s inflation remains low at 2.1 percent in July 2019. This is the lowest inflation recorded in Davao region for this year. Meanwhile, purchasing power of peso (PPP) stayed at 83 centavos.

Inflation rates per province also went down, with Davao Del Sur and Davao Del Norte having the highest inflation at 2.3 percent each, followed by Compostela Valley at 1.6 percent. Davao Oriental retained the lowest inflation in the region at 1.1 percent (see Table 1).
