HOUSEHOLDS WITH OVERSEAS FILIPINOS, OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS, AND EMIGRANTS The 2018 National Migration Survey (NMS) shows that 7.3 percent of total households in Davao Region have an Overseas Filipino (OF) family member, while 11.0 percent have an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). On the other hand, only 0.3 percent of the households in Davao Region had a family member which is an emigrant. MIGRATION IN DAVAO REGION. The results also suggest that 40.0 percent of Filipinos are lifetime migrants, which means that 40.0 percent of Filipinos whose current area of residence are different from its area of birth. These lifetime migrants in the Philippines are dominantly comprised of females (54.43 percent) than males (45.57 percent). The economy of Davao Region posted a 7.0 percent growth in 2019, slower as compared with the 7.2 percent growth in 2018. The main drivers for growth in 2019 are Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 12.0 percent; Construction with 26.6 percent; Financial and insurance activities with 13.1 percent; and Transportation and storage with 7.4 percent. Services continued to account for the biggest share to the region’s economy at 58.5 percent. The production performance of fruit crops in the region declined by 3.5 percent in 2019, from 3,743,212.32 metric tons in 2018 to 3,609,786.69 metric tons in 2019, a turnaround from an increase of 1.4 percent between 2017 and 2018. Increasing number of Marriages. The number of marriages in Davao Region showed a decreasing trend from 2009 to 2016. On the other hand, it is interesting to note that from 2016 to 2018, the number of marriages in the region was on an increasing trend (Table 1 and Figure 1). In 2018, Davao Region recorded a total of 23,275 registered marriages. Most number of couples married in June. Most number of marriages in 2018 occurred in June with 2,585 (11.1% of the total marriages in the region). An average of 241 registered babies born daily in the region A total of 87,834 live births was registered in Davao Region in 2018 which is equivalent to a crude birth rate (CBR) of 17.1 or 17 births per thousand population. On the average, there were about 241 registered babies born daily or 10 babies per hour. The number of registered live births from 2008 to 2016 showed an increasing trend, except in the year 2013. An average of 82 deaths daily in Davao Region. Reported deaths in Davao Region in 2018 reached 29,870, an increase of 1.5 percent than the previous year’s 29,415 deaths. This is equivalent to a crude death rate (CDR) of 5.8 or about six (6) persons per thousand population. An average of 82 persons died daily in 2018, which translates to 3 deaths per hour. The number of deaths in Davao Region from 2009 to 2018 showed an increasing trend except in the years 2013 and 2014.
