An average of 240 registered babies born daily in the region. A total of 87,770 live births was registered in Davao Region in 2019 which is equivalent to a crude birth rate (CBR) of 16.8 or 17 births per thousand population. On the average, there were about 240 registered babies born daily or 10 babies per hour. The number of registered live births from 2009 to 2016 showed an increasing trend, except in the year 2013. A decreasing trend was observed from 2016 to 2019 (Figure 1 and Table 1). In the region, more than half (52.4%) of the babies registered were males (46,001), while females comprised of 41,769 or 47.6 percent. Increasing number of Marriages. The number of marriages in Davao Region showed a decreasing trend from 2009 to 2016. It is interesting to note that from 2016 to 2018, the number of marriages in the region was on an increasing trend. From 2018 to 2019, it decreased by 5.9 percent (Table 1 and Figure 1). In 2019, Davao Region recorded a total of 21,901 registered marriages. Most number of couples married in December. Most number of marriages in 2019 occurred in December with 2,384 (10.6% of the total marriages in the region). The year-on-year regional inflation of Davao Region accelerated to 4.1% in May 2021. The current inflation is significantly higher as compared to the previous month at 3.7%, and of the same month of the previous year at 1.9%. Moreover, this is the highest inflation recorded in the region since April 2019. On the other hand, the purchasing power of the peso (PPP) which measures the real value of the peso in a given period relative to a chosen reference period remained at 78 centavos (see Table 1). The January - March 2021 palay production at 131,310.68 metric tons was higher than the 2020 level of 129,152.81 metric tons or an increase by 1.67% (Fig. 1). Harvested area expanded from 27,465.70 hectares in 2020 to 29,120.48 hectares in 2021 of the same quarter (Fig. 2). On the other hand, the yield declined from 4.70 to 4.51 metric tons per hectare or lower by 4.04% (Fig. 3). The provinces that contributed significant increments in production were Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental Province by 6.37% and 52.60%, respectively.
