As diverse as the Mindanao Island Group can be, the same is true for the religions embraced by its populace. The island registered a total population of 24,135,775 as of the 2015 Census of Population. Roman Catholic and Islam are the two religions most widely spread across Mindanao. These two denominations together cover the religious affiliation of more than half of the islands’ population. Around 57 percent of its citizens claim membership in the Roman Catholic Church and about 23.4 percent declared Islam as their religious preference. Read more about Religions in Mindanao.

The National Economic and Development Authority-XI in coordination with the Philippine Statistics Authority-RSSO XI hosted the 28th National Statistics Month (NSM) Opening Ceremony on October 6, 2017 at the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites, Santa Ana Ave., Davao City. The theme of this year’s NSM is “Facts and Figures for the Future: Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions Towards AmBisyon Natin 2040.” The program featured presentations that highlighted the role of reliable and factual statistics to track the Philippines’ progress towards its long-term vision where all Filipinos are envisioned to have a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay (stable, comfortable and secured life). With a total of 6,064,744 followers or 6.01% of Philippines' total population, Islam is the second largest religion in Mindanao based on the result of the 2015 Census of Population (2015 POPCEN). The Mindanao island group is home to majority of the Filipino Muslims in the Philippines. It is where 93% of the entire Islamic population resides. Of Mindanao’s 24,135,775 population, Muslims make up about 23.39% of the island’s entire population with more than half of this percentage (14.30%) occupying the ARMM. As of July 1, 2017 the total inventory of hog in Davao Region was 911,615 heads, 3.9 percent higher than the inventory of 877,099 heads of the same period the previous year. In the latest count of hogs in the region, about 84.1 percent or 766,840 heads were raised in backyard farms while 15.9 percent or 144,775 heads were raised in commercial farms. Goat in the region has a total inventory of 322,724 heads of which majority or 99.0 percent were raised in backyard farms while there was only 1.0 percent raised in commercial farms. Fisheries production in Davao Region during the 2nd quarter went up from 11,073.71 metric tons in 2016 to about 12,180.24 metric tons this year or a growth of 9.99 percent. Municipal fisheries had the biggest contribution of 52.39 percent while aquaculture and commercial fisheries shared 40.21 percent and 7.39 percent to total fishery production, respectively. Total population went up by 424 thousand persons • As of 1 August 2015, Davao Region had a total population of 4,893,318 persons based on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015). • The total population based on the POPCEN 2015 is higher by 424,755 persons compared with the 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) count of 4,468,563 persons. Based on the 2007 Census of Population (POPCEN 2007), the total population was 4,159,469 persons.
