Davao Region’s inflation continued to rose at 2.4 percent in February 2020, which was 0.2 percent higher compared to January 2020. The recorded inflation in February 2020 was relatively lower against the 4.5 percent inflation in the same month of last year. Meanwhile,the purchasing power of peso (PPP) decreased to 81 centavos (see Table 1). By province, Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro had the highest inflation rate at 2.6 percent a piece. This was followed by Davao del Sur at 2.5 percent. Meanwhile, Davao Oriental has the lowest inflation at 1.0 percent, from a 2.3 percent inflation rate in the previous month. Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Davao Region regularly conducts a Client Satisfaction Survey (CSS) to measure if indeed the office is performing along its vision as solid, responsive and world-class in providing efficient civil registration services. The inflation rate in Davao region jumps at 2.2 percent in January 2020 from the 2.0 percent of the previous month. This is the highest inflation recorded since June 2019 (see figure 1). However, the reported inflation rate is lower as compared to its inflation rate in the previous year (4.7%). The purchasing power of peso (PPP) stayed at 82 centavos (see table 1). PhP 10,797 needed to stay out of poverty: Latest estimates released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) shows that a Davaoeño needed PhP2,159 in 2018 to meet his/her monthly basic requirements to stay out of poverty. Hence, Davaoeño families consisting of five members, the average Filipino family size, must have had a regular source of income amounting to PhP129,559 in 2018 or a monthly income of PhP10,797 to be able to meet their most basic food and non-food needs. Thus, a sole wage earner in a five-member family living in Davao region had to work hard in getting the entire family out of poverty with at most PhP355 income per day.
